I just put my winter shoes on last night: Michelin PA4. I just love these PA4s in cold wet weather. They are incredibly predictable with a ton of feedback, comfortable, and just handle so well with buckets of grip. I had them on my E90 M3 when I had that and loved them on that car too. I went with 255s rear and wow is this a nice wide 255! I don't know if it mounts so wide due to a proper 9.5" wheel vs 8" or what, but it looks great.
I bought through VMR with them mounting to V703s including TPMS and it was a nice smooth process getting them. Unfortunately I can't get my OEM center caps to fit the wheels but the VMR caps work fine. The wheels look great and perfectly meet what I wanted in a winter set. There is just a touch of poke in the rear, but as someone who does not like poke I actually like the look. OEM suspension and no rubbing at this point. If I wasn't leasing, I would probably sell my OEM summer set and get some VMR flowform wheels in the same spec as this set.
Anyway, thought I'd post up and share some crappy pics for fun. I'll post better ones when the weather is good and the car is clean.
Setup:
VMR V703 18x8.5 ET35 front, 18x9.5 ET45 rear
Michelin Pilot Alpin 4 225/40 front, 255/35 rear
Oh and I should address xDrive and understeer with this aggressively staggered set. Maybe it's placebo, but I think the handling balance is at least as good if not better now. Not sure why, but I really feel the rear end gripping and pivoting the car around a corner. I haven't found understeer on the street yet. I theorize that with a wider rear tire which equals better grip, that xDrive would hopefully keep the power in the rear, but I would expect that to possibly overwhelm the smaller front tires. I suppose if power to the front is not needed and xDrive shuts them down, then they are able to be more effective on steering grip. Who knows... I'll have to experiment more.
