ED in Munich during Oktoberfest..advice

I just finally filled out my PO for the M4 ED. I negotiated the s*it out of this deal and super happy with my results.

I got MG with SO interior extended. Lighting and Executive package. 19 black rims, DCT, and HK sound. A lot less than $1k per month with taxes with no down. woohoo!!!

Going to go pick her up in Munich on Sept 22nd and I only have 3 days to spend there. I wish I could have gotten more days off but I'm going to spend the first 3 days in Amsterdam before Munich pick up because of my schedule. Anyways, I wanted some advice from anyone who has been to Munich and/or done the ED. Is there a lot to do in Munich (other than 1 day drinking the entire day at Oktoberfest)? Or would you recommend only 1 day in Munich and check out other cites like Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, etc.

Other people tell me that I should just stay the entire time in Munich but since this is my first time in Germany, I didn't want to miss anything that a first time should see.

Advice for just 3 days to spend?

CP with BOV for all season 335xi

Hello everyone,

I was thinking about making the move to a charge pipe with a bov setup but was than wondering about winter...

I use my 335 all year round, its an xDrive, so winters are great with it.

I wanted to know if you guys are running a CP with a BOV setup during winter??

Would it cause problems??

Would snow / humidity / condensation get in the intake??

What is your take on this??

I'm considering the CP-E or the VRSF charge pipe with a Tial BOV. I dont want a BOV that makes too much noise, just something better that those cheap OEM DV's. Dont want to make it sound like a ricer ;)

Give me your take on the subject and/or suggestions on your prefered CP and BOV combo.

Thatks guys

Interesting M4 Owner First Impression video

Who is Nick Murray? Is he on this forum? I found his video of his first drive in his new M4 to be pretty interesting - though camera quality isn't the best. Always nice to see someone's thoughts when they first get the car. I really got a kick out of the vid when he said he told the dealer NOT to put their dealer badge on it and of course they still did...that shii pisses me off too. I usually remove the dealer plate right away.

Leaking valve cover gasket at 39k miles

Is it somewhat normal for the valve cover gasket to be leaking at 39k miles? I was about to change my spark plugs, and noticed pooling oil in the spark plug holes and around the valve cover. I pulled the cylinder 1 plug out and it coated my tools and plug in oil.

One interesting clue is i think the plug's electrodes aren't fouled because I've never noticed smoke when I'm starting/driving the car, but after removing plug 1 and reinstalling (fouled the plug when i removed) the car blew smoke and smelled like burning oil for a min then cleared up. Im assuming it was burning off the oil on the fouled plug.

Im assuming this is a valve cover gasket leak? I bought the car used at 21k with CPO. Will this be covered under CPO? Is it likely that the previous owner did a number on the engine and I'll be faced with dealing with his/her tuning aftermath?

I'm pretty freakin bummed. :(. On a positive side i changed the oil and tranny fluid with no problems. Shifter feels much smoother. I was doing all this to prep for a Dinan stage 2 tomorrow but i guess that will have to wait.

Front tires out of balance after track day

Still can't figure out why are my newly mounted R-S3 are out of balance after one track day from last week. Brand new Apex wheels, so no bend or anything, and all the wheel weights are still there. But the steering wheel would shake quite noticeably at speed above 80mph. The tires were balanced before the track day...

The only reason I can come up with is that the tires rotated on the wheels from the hard braking that I have done on the track. But I would be amazed that a street car with stock brakes is capable of such feat...

You guys have any clue?

DDE replacement under warranty

In our never ending quest for data and statistics.

If you had your DDE replaced under warranty. What was the year and build date of the vehicle? Hoping to see a pattern.

I have since had all 6 injectors changed a month ago and the car is in the shop right now getting an injector replaced.

Mine is an 11. Will get the build date when I get it back from BMW.

Long Tran BMW and Carbon Blasting..

Hi all- just wanted to share my experience with this shop and see if i'm alone on this- About 6 months ago my car went out of warranty so i decided to to a carbon blast at LTBMW after seeing the good price on the group buy here.

So I called and talked to Long on the phone and when i mentioned the group buy price he said he could do it for that! Great! So i plan a day where my wife can drive the 45min to the shop and take me home. When i get there, they kind of had me waiting after they made some calls. I asked if i could go and they were like- 'we thought you needed a rental- its included in the price!' i was like wow thats a really good deal! i wish i knew that before i made my wife come here.

Before i left, i made sure to ask them if they could take before and after pictures of the valves to make sure they were clean. I also asked them to do an oil change and computer reset. Anyway, i leave the car, and i get a call saying that its done the following day. I come back on the weekend excited to pickup my car and see what has done...I ask to see the pictures and the tech shows them to me on an iphone and i can barely see whats going on but it looks like they're cleaner. I say fine can you email those to me- he says sure and i give my email.

I drive my car home, everything feels about the same- but i'm sure they've prolly done the work that was asked for. I wait the whole day, no pics sent. I call the next day- ask to speak to the girl i talked to- and the guy on the line says 'oh she doesnt work here any more' huh? ok well i ask him if he can get the tech to email them. he says he'll check but that tech is out today but he'll let him know. fine- i wait another day, no email. Call back next day- this time the girl that i was told 'no longer works there' answers and says- she'll get the tech to send it- One more day goes by- no pics. Finally i make one last effort and the guy tells me the tech no longer has the pix cause he emailed them and deleted them...wtf!

So i no longer even know if the work was done- and i just recently got a service warning saying i need to bring my car to the dealer. well i bring it to the dealer and they say the computer is telling me i need an oil change because its been over a year- I thought LTBMW reset the computer after the oil change! At this point i'm suspicious that any work was done given that they didnt do that simple part and charged as much as the stealership...Anybody have a similar experience?

WTB: Set of front OEM 19" tires (PS2/PSS)

I will be replacing the wheels and tires on my car shortly, but for the time being I find myself in need of two front tires, which I will be using for only a few weeks.

Let me know what you have.

Was driving just now and the notorious BMW chime went off "DING", was just low gas indicator, but jesus Christ my heart skipped a beat because of my past experiences with that "DING" last time it was water pump, then HPFP then injectors etc

Hahaha anyone else have trust issues with that chime:lol:

Uprated Anti Roll Sway bars

Anyone looked into this?

I believe some, maybe all E70s have option of Active roll bar?

I came across this company offering some chassis stiffening items for the E70 - http://ift.tt/XlMLga

Even with KWv3s installed I wonder how much more out there is on offer in terms of chassis tweaks.

Coding in the UK

Hi there,

I'm fairly new here, I've just taken delivery of an F33 428i M Sport Convertible and I'm curious about the coding side of things.

All the other cars I drive have digital speed reading which is what prompted this and I am fairly IT competent however coding was never a speciality of mine.

Is there a company in the UK that can code things for me? Or is there anybody who is feeling generous enough to give me a hand? I have signed up on the coding forums however it has been nearly a week and they haven't approved my account to enable me to post yet!

I would really appreciate a bit of help as most of the equipment I can find is in America!

Thanks,

Zak

ACM local special on Ohlins

When you purchase your new set of Ohlins Road & Track we will install them at no cost

For those of you out of the area pm me for promotion pricing shipped

This is the latest step in the Ohlins Racing automotive philosophy – Road&Track by Ohlins. A more than 30 year long tradition of high-end racing commitments and state-of-the-art solutions within advanced suspension technology is now available for street cars all over the world. The focus has been clear from the very beginning – superior road handling without sacrificing comfort in your day-to-day transports. The time of compromises are over!

Ohlins has added a clever light-weight design with a majority of the parts in aluminum. On top of that, all shocks have suffered through vast corrosion tests according to ISO 9227. The end result is a 2-year limited warranty on all of our products - worldwide.

The Features of DFV Technology

So what is DFV? It is Dual Flow Valve technology – and it sets us apart from our competitors. Only Ohlins has DFV technology on its road and track products.

With DFV, the dual flow valve gives the same characteristics on rebound as it does on compression, thanks to the damper fluid having a consistent path of flow in both directions. This means that the wheel and tyre can quickly and effectively resume their important position back on the ground, providing grip and traction. The new Öhlins R&T range uses DFV technology on every single fitment, making it the perfect upgrade for the enthusiast that needs comfort and agility in the one unit.

Figure 1: (Compression flow) At low shaft speeds, oil flows mostly through the shaft jet bleed (lower dotted arrow). At higher shaft speeds, oil flows mostly through the compression ports in the piston (upper dotted arrow). At very high shaft speeds, or during sudden shaft accelerations, oil can also escape through the compression ports in the DFV, increasing comfort. Figure

2: (Rebound flow) At low shaft speeds, oil flows mostly through the shaft jet bleed (lower dotted arrow). At higher shaft speeds, oil flows mostly through the rebound ports in the piston (upper dotted arrow). At very high shaft speeds, or during sudden shaft accelerations, oil can also escape through the rebound ports in the DFV, maintaining tyre contact with the road.

Because DFV opens more quickly and easily on minor road imperfections, ride comfort is surprisingly supple and more akin to an OEM strut than a coilover set-up. Over undulating surfaces, the compliancy of the R&T units allows the car to crest bumps and pot-holes, whilst still keep stable and in control. Traction is always maintained at its optimum level. When comparing suspension, why settle for second best?

Figure 3: (Vehicle – no DFV) Without DFV the oil can not flow through the piston quickly enough on the rebound stroke after hitting a bump, so the tyre is not able to stay in contact with the road.

Figure 4: (Vehicle – DFV technique) The DFV valve opens, letting the oil flow quicker through the piston on the rebound stroke after hitting a bump, enabling the tyre to stay in contact with the road.

When adjusting ride height on coilover units, it’s worth comparing how it’s done. On many inferior designs, height is adjusted by raising or lowering the lower spring platform. This has the effect of compressing or extending the spring, which can limit the suspension travel that may cause topping out. The Öhlins method is to leave the spring seat in its perfect position, whilst the lower flange spins easily on the threaded body, to allow you to adjust with absolute precision whilst maintaining the perfect characteristics that we took so long to design in! Once you’ve set it all up, the adjuster simply locks off to maintain your exact settings.

Dampers will get hot. That’s one thing that you can be sure of. As the piston moves within the damper, it generates friction – and therefore, heat. Although we can’t stop heat, we can deal with it, and this is yet another way that Öhlins differs from the competition. As the heat increases, the viscosity of the damper fluid can change, altering the car’s handling characteristics. Our unique needle bleed valve expands with temperature, closing the gap that the fluid travels through, maintaining a consistent damping rate. The best thing of all? You won’t even notice! All you’ll feel is that the car responds consistently, lap after lap, turn after turn. Allowing you to concentrate on braking points and apexes whilst the Öhlins technology takes care of the damping.

Figure 5: Thermal Expansion

These kits all work well ‘out of the box’, but there’s still plenty of adjustment for you to set things your way. You like stiff and reactive? Or soft and forgiving? It’s all there. Too much low speed rebound damping can have an adverse effect on grip, so the easily accessible adjuster at the base of the Öhlins units allows small, but positive increments of fine tuning, so you can take into account every single parameter. Sounds complicated? Nothing could be further for the truth. Just a few clicks either way from our factory settings will soon have your car responding precisely to your inputs and driving style.

The Road & Track McPherson struts also feature camber adjustable upper and lower mounts to give you the possibility to fine tune your wheels for the right occasion – whether you want to go for a ride in your neighborhood or take your car for a spin at the track on a weekend.

Tracking Michigan HWY

Anyone have tracking on Michigan Highway due into Baltimore on 7 aug? Last pickup was 3 days ago in UK

Drivetrain Vibration

I have posted regarding this in the past pointing at various possible culprits. However the problem still exist and I am completely clueless as I am running out of possibilities. So let me please elaborate:

Symptom :

Hard vibration/thump from rear wheels to the front of the drivetrain from 900 - 2200 rpms in all gears. It start coming in when the car gets hot, as in if I were to drive for about 30 mins in warm weather; not present when the drivetrain is cold. If I were to dive on highway with a passengers on a warm day, after 30 miles or so up hill driving in lower rpm's become unbearable. When the thump is bad, it almost feel like I am getting wheel-hop from rear wheels. Vibration is not present at all through the steering wheel.

The Car

  • 2008 E90 328i

  • Auto Trans

  • 95K miles

  • OEM 18" 162 sports wheels

Mods

  • FK Coilovers

  • M3 Rear Subframe Bushings

  • M3 Rear Sway

Beginning

I put on the M3 rear sway and M3 rear subframe bushings Before the coil overs. The vibrations started happening right after those, but before the coil overs. This is about 15K miles ago. About 500 miles ago, my main engine mounts collapsed completely. I would imagine this vibration was the reason for them to prematurely fail. This car is driven in Florida, never seen snow or harsh conditions. The family car, never tracked or abused. Just spirited driving.

What I have tried so far
Alignment

I got various alignments from different places, everything is within specs.

Wheels

Wheels were balanced multiple times and even got the rear wheels repaired to make sure they aren't bent.

Tires

Changed the set to a new.

Engine Codes

None. Engine is running well and well maintained.

Engine Mounts

These collapsed about 500 miles ago as I mentioned above. I believe the collapsed prematurely because of this vibration. So these are replaced and the vibration still exists.

Center Axle Bearing

This is what I changed very last, because the main symptom pointed at this bearing from most of my research. I did it my self, existing bearing was not beat at all, it was in pristine conditions. I also inspected the flex disc, differential mounts, they were all in great shape. I also inpected the CV joints and moved around rear control arms, seem to be fine.

So I am running out of ideas. I do feel the car is a little jerky from switching to Drive from neutral of Reverse. This is minute, and compared to when it was brand new.

Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Logs: BMS pump vs Wedge flash

Having Wedge "pro-tuning" my car at the moment, which I specified for moderate timing advance and boost level for reliably performance when I go tracking on road courses. But from the look of the logs I did, look like BMS pump flash is still a better match for my car and E30 fuel (see my sig for mods)

FS: E91/E93 KW Coilovers

Ok, so here's the deal:

These coilovers do NOT fit my car (2008 RWD sedan), however I bought them anyway because I thought they were a good deal.

They came off a 2008 335i E93. To my understanding, these will fit all E91 wagons and e93 vert's from 2006-2011.

Guy I bought them from said he used them for about a year but is now selling his car.

I looked them over, seems to have mostly all the parts. Looks like a few rubber bushings may be missing, I am honestly not really sure though. The "bumpstops" (which is what I think they are called) are all chewed up and you would need to get new ones. No leaking. Threads are good.

All replacement parts can be bought directly from KW

I also really am not sure WHICH of the KW coils these are... V1-2-3? Im not sure.

I am looking to either sell these, OR trade them for coils or struts/springs that fit a RWD E90 sedan.

OR, looking to trade for a set of wheels. If trading for wheels, I also currently have a set of staggered Beyern Mesh 19's on Nexen tires.

I am currently NOT shipping these, as it easily weighs 50lbs+

I am located just south of Harrisburg, PA.

I am not listing a price, so make some offers. No low balling or I will flatout ignore you.

Here are some pictures - sorry for the crappy pics, my cell phone + shakey hand + in a rush led to some pretty poor pictures. I can take more per anyone's request.

Pics: (Coils are VERY dirty, with grease and dirt on them... can definitely be cleaned up to look a lot nicer)

Problems with connected drive?

So my connected drive/bmw online hasn't been working for the 1.5 weeks i've had the car. I hit the SOS button and registered the day I got the car and i've tried to update it also (The OTA update for bmw online)

Finally called the number they give me on my i-drive and they said they have to open a ticket with BMW NA and will get back to me.

Anyone else having this issue?

Chicago area: Coilover install shops/price?

WTB e90/e92/e93 Car Cover

I am looking for a car cover for my e93. Simple as that.

The agony begins NOW!

Stopped at the dealer today to check up on the status of my M3... Beginning of July he told me my car went from delivery beginning of October to end of August... Today he checked again and the car is already in Belgium, waiting to be delivered to the dealer :confused0068: ... The dealer is closing on 15 of August for 10 days, so I asked if they will be able to get and prepare the car before that date...They'll do their best, was the answer, but no promises... So close, I can almost smell it! It's going to be a long 2 weeks :mad0259:...

Awesome ...

Red screen of death.

Looks like a new hard drive is in order ... just hope the dealer properly diagnoses and addresses the issue, especially if it doesn't flare up when I take it in tomorrow.

Thanks,

Zak

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for an OEM x-pipe for my E92 (2008).

Specifically, it needs to have all 4 catalytic converters (needed to pass CA smog check).

Thanks!

What production month and year to stay away from

Looking to purchase a 535 xdrive and after a lot of reading I was wondering what production month and year I should stay away from? It seems it's all over the place as far as when issues were rectified. Thanks!

Finally my 6 inline!!!!

Ok guys! I finally got it!!!

In late 2011 I joined the forum because I wanted to purchase a 125i! Never was a big fan of turbo cars... Since the first car I drove at 13 was a VW polo G40!!! That supercharger sound and feeling left me possessed! All this also because of that Australian movie ..... MAD MAX!

But back in 2011 i went to Germany to purchase my 125i... And I always been a fan of minis... Already had 2 by then... But it was time for a change....!*

So when I arrive at the BMW dealer, ready to find the 125i something, not something...! What I saw was a mint mini coopers s Jcw Gp! It had just 30.000 Kim's.... I said fuck the bimmer! I'm going home with this! And so I did! Been loving it since then! 280hp later... The car is made for trackdays! Forget that now!

So you know the day I arrived in lisbon I was about to arrive home... Guest what I saw on the streets.... You guest it! *A 125i passing by me! Hahahahahaha unbelievable! That was and has been the only one 125i I have ever seen in Portugal!

Ok sorry for this! What I meant with all this, is that I always wanted this straight 6!!!!! And here it's is!

Counting with 21.000kms! Almost full extras! Missing the aero pack I think everything else is there!*

Pre-Lci E90 M3 Look Bonnet

I will have this bonnet up for sale after next Saturday. (9th) Please see video or photo's from previous posts if interested. Let me know before 9th Aug if not it's going on eBay. It is as good as new as I had it wrapped straight after purchase.

It is currently wrapped (matte blue) but I can have this removed if you let me know by next Sat. Underneath it is just primer'd and ready to be sprayed or wrapped again, it's up to you.

I've decided to temporarily put the original bonnet back on while I decide what to do next.. So heading to Nottinghamshire again to tidy up bits on my wrap and have the bonnet fitted.

How white is oyster interior?

I haven't seen the oyster interior in person but from the pics online it looks white. But I saw someone saying its not as white in person. And I absolutely hate beige. Anyone got any pics with a good representation of what it really looks like?

SPRINT BOOSTER - Recommended!

As stated on previous posts about this, I finally purchased and installed one on my 335d. Definitely a noticeable difference, as it was when I had a manual BMW. I recommend them and stick by them (it is not the same as putting your foot down faster) this does actually cut lag!

Custom Performance Engineering Exhaust

Up for sale is a CP-E Rear Exhaust section for 08-10 N54 135i. This section lists for $799 new and it is in fairly good condition, it was on the vehicle for only 20k miles. Please contact me for photos or for more information. Thank You!

Velocity Motorcars Rear Suspension Arms

I am putting up for sale my rear suspension arms that came off my e90. These are produced by Velocity Motorcars and are 6 arms in total with mounting hardware. They were on the vehicle for roughly 18k miles before it was sold. The 2 rear control arms alone sell for $289 so i believe i am at a fair asking price. Feel free to contact me for more info or to make an offer.

Video showing "clouds of smoke" from exhaust. Bad Valve Cover Gasket or Turbo Seal

Hey guys,

After installing my AR DPs I noticed the smoke coming from the exhaust like many other N54 owners. Although sometimes my smoking seemed excessive, the written descriptions from other members were right in-line with what I was experiencing: when coasting off throttle, in traffic, etc.

Although I never searched for a video with great effort, I never stumbled on one showing what it looks like. I happen to have one so I thought I would share.

Most of the stories I read linked the smoking to high-flowing DPs and when the oem units were reinstalled, the problems stopped. This makes sense as the cats would likely burn off a lot of engine vapor but it is extremely unlikely for it to be the root of the problem.

After further inspection I noticed a considerable amount of oil leaking from the charge side of my rear turbo which can be seen in the pics below, also with the photo of the *********, notice how the rear DP is much darker inside.

It looked like a bad turbo seal to my amateur eyes so last week I dropped my car off at BMW Fremont to milk the last few days of my CPO warranty (it ends today 7/30). So far the service adviser notified me that they have replaced the valve cover gasket, that was 2 days ago, so fingers crossed they smoking persists and I will get 2 new snails out of the visit; timing would be impeccable if it works out like this. I will update this when I get my car back.

Hope this helps someone!

Teaser Pic - Painted Calipers

I know it's not a huge deal but wanted to share a pic of the newly painted calipers. Lamborghini Blu Cepheus w/ black Brembo decals (decals were clear coated).

Once they are on the car (and I have my wheels back from ADV1) I will shoot a couple pictures. I think they should pop pretty good against the black paint and polished/brushed wheels.
