Borded

i'm totally bored with rubbish that is discussed on this forum and I'm out of here.

Koenigsegg Agera R vs Porsche 918

I can only imagine how brutal the acceleration feels...:bulge:

M2 weight vs M235i and 228i

I recently came across a few 228i weight data points that really intrigued me.

First, was from the GSR Autosport 228i track build out thread. Apparently GSR acquired a very base if not completely base 228i and it weighed in at an astonishing 3091 lbs with 1/2 a tank of fuel. That number is mind bogglingly low considering I've heard everyone throw around 3500lbs as the m235i number. Now granted that may be accurate for a semi-loaded or loaded m235i but I am planning for an M2 build that's very close to base, which has me wondering what a fairly base m235i would actually weigh in at. I haven't found a weigh-in thread for one yet. This also has me wondering, what is the weight difference between the 228i and m235i engines? Is it really close to ~250lbs? That can't be right. There may be some additional engine cooling componentry and some additional oil and coolant capacity for the bigger engine, I just can't imagine the weight difference being quite that high.

Then here is another thread where a 228i weighed in at 3260 lbs with a few options. Still a very light car.

Bottom line, I think a base M2 may actually be lighter than we've been estimating.

¼ mile time – M235i Xdrive = 12.255 seconds

Took my car to the local drag strip over the past couple days and thought folks might be interested in the results.

Car: 2015 M235i Xdrive with Pirelli runflat tires – factory 225 square setup

Mods: JB4 (on Map 2 version 3_0), ER catless downpipe & MPE (currently has stock airbox and filter)

Fuel: 93 octane

Launch method: Factory launch control

Best run on Tuesday was 12.274@109. I slightly bettered it yesterday with a 12.255@109.

Hit a deer tonight

Driving on some back roads a huge deer jumped in front of me and I couldn't stop in time. Looks like just the windshield and hood are damaged, plus all the glass on the dash. Pretty pissed:mad0260:

2015 NFL DRAFT Discussion...

We are moments away from one of the most anticipated days/weekends in Pro Sports! When new talent can come in and change the entire landscape of a team!

I am tuned into NFL Network as you read this. And I just heard a BANANAS trade offer from Chip Kelley and the Eagles: 2 first rd pics, 1 third rd, Fletcher Cox and several other current players from their team for either the overall first or second rd pick in this years draft!!!

Carl punched a bear

Speaks for itself

Would probably be a hilarious guy to have a few beers with

991 911 Turbo (non-S) vs. AMG GT (non-S)

My predictions were right. :D The King is still the King. First the Turbo S handily beats the Speciale and now the basic turbo shows AMG they still cant compete despite the target they aimed at the turbo.

Dallas area - wraps/films etc

Can anyone recommend a high quality dealer and installer of wraps/films? Specifically clear film to protect the front end...

Thanks!

Jason

Auto safety article in NewYorker

There is an excellent Malcolm Gladwell piece on auto safety in this weeks NewYorker through the mindset of the engineer in comparison to the end user.
Not sure if available for free on line at the mag's site.

Spotify is broken ... again

As some of you may know, the latest incremental iOS update to Spotify (on Sunday, I believe: 3.0.0.2566) broke its functionality with ConnectedDrive (and with MINI Connected, incidentally) and, to a lesser extent, its ability to work using the USB port.

But have no fear (we hope): the Spotify folks are aware of the issue and are "investigating". See this thread.

:mad0260:

(Let's also see if the fix they come up with allows a higher-resolution stream than 96kbps ... :sigh: )

BMW M8 and i8s reportedly axed

"BMW has reportedly decided to kill several projects that were started under outgoing CEO Dr. Norbert Reithofer.

According to Automobile's sources, these doomed models include the 9-Series Coupe, the Z2 Roadster, the i8S and the highly-anticipated M8 which was rumored to be a modern day successor to the iconic M1.
While the news is unfortunate, the cancellations haven't affected the i5 which is scheduled to be green-lighted in October. It will reportedly ride on the company's new rear-wheel drive platform and be about as long as the i8 but roomier than the 3-Series.

The electric verison is slated to feature two electric motors - with outputs of approximately 225 bhp and 135 bhp - while the plug-in hybrid is expected to use either a 1.5-liter three-cylinder or a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as well as a 275 bhp electric motor and a 75+ kW battery. It everything pans out, the latter model will have a combined maximum output of up to 400 bhp which should be enough to allow it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds.

The i5 will reportedly be launched in 2019 and cost approximately $5,500 more than the upcoming 3-Series plug-in hybrid."

Sorce: worldcarfans

Not that we didn't expect that already but pretty sad nonetheless to see the M8 and 9 coupe being "reportedly" axed..I'd say this report its spot on with what we've been hearing from various sources for a long time now.

Quick VPN question

So I have RT-AC66U router that has OpenVPN server and client. I set it up to run my own VPN server and I am able to connect with my Android phone using OpenVPN app.

Now I dont know much about this stuff, as I understand if I connect my phone to public Wifi through my own VPN server then that means all traffic will go through my home VPN and therefore protect my info, correct ?

What happens when my home computer connects to my home VPN (with Asus built-in Client) ? Is there any benefit in doing it so? Because my IP is not hidden, is there encryption involved that can benefit me ?

I understand if I get VPN service then its a different story because all traffic gets routed through 3rd party VPN server.....

Exhuast help needed!

Anyone with experience installing intermediate pipe adapters to a stock exhaust and adding performance tips,,, please pm me. Really stuck on this DIY and would like some help from someone with experience.

Thanks!!!

///M235i AWE Tuning Exhaust Review

Hey all! I work for BMW of Devon. I’ve been a BMW nut since my E46 M3 Comp Package, and have gotten to know these cars inside and out since then, not to mention the fact that I touch these cars every day. So in early 2014 when AWE Tuning confidentially let us know that they wanted to acquire their development M4 from us, and would be creating a full product catalog for a 2015 launch… I offered up my brand new M235i as a dev car for the exhaust and the intake. So yes… I was the first on the planet to have an AWE Tuning M235i exhaust and was sworn to secrecy for months! Here’s my take on the system!

I have been following the M235i ever since I saw the “M235i” as a future trademark. Then the car came to visit us as the test car -- and I was hooked. I knew I wanted it and nothing else. I’ve owned a lot of performance cars over the years and something about this one sparked an interest much like my E46! Once it was available for order I jumped all over it. After driving it for a little while I noticed that the stock “sport” exhaust was nice, but was not what the doctor ordered. I had the choice of the BMW M-Performance exhaust but for the money and what you gained out of it, I didn’t pull the trigger….I’m glad I waited!

The M235 - Stock

My biggest complaint with the stock exhaust is the valve, yes --- BMW does this for their reasons but I can’t stand having one pipe be the exhaust channel on start-up….It looks quite silly IMHO….one pipe working and the other dormant.

For me, owning a BMW comes down to quality and performance without sacrificing daily drivability so emulating that in my aftermarket modifications is important. I do use my M often for business, so keeping a professional demeanor is important. AWE seems to have that down while still sounding pretty mean when you get on it.

Working w/AWE

Everyone at AWE was courteous, friendly and overall just nice to deal with during the whole process. The system I have is the Touring Edition + performance mid pipe, with black 102mm tips. I gotta say this setup is impressive, what's more impressive is when you drop the stock exhaust and put the new side by side, outside of pure size, the new system was lighter than the stock. The muffler has "180 Technology" embossed on it, which I'm sure has everything to do with how the sound and power all come together representing AWE in all it's exhaust applications. The tips are fantastic....honestly it looks like a real deal ///M car with them in the arches of the rear bumper.

Pic from AWE, letting her sing on the dyno!!!

START Button and Enjoy..........

This is where the real fun begins, break out the Go-Pro’s! From the very first push it was all show and all go! I was very pleased from minute 1 with the performance of the exhaust system, both with the sound and then on-road driving. I’ll lay out my thoughts from initial start-up to WOT on the highway. As I said above, from the first push of the start button you know there is something different. The N55 motor and this exhaust are a match made in heaven. When the car is cold you’ll get the higher RPM with louder notes until 60 seconds or so later it will then settle at normal RPM with a great tone at idle. The system works for everyday driving, meaning that if the M235i is your everyday driver then you will have NO problems listening to music or taking a phone call via bluetooth. Standing still and launching the car is probably the most fun you’ll have with it. The AWE exhaust lets you know there is a tremendous amount of power being transferred to the wheels! I have yet to take the car to a track yet, which is the next step for me personally, but I feel this isn't the only AWE power adder I’m going to outfit my car with….I can’t wait for their carbon fiber intake!

Now, onto the highway...I found the first entrance on ramp and hit it from 2nd gear on up. Since all this is public I will not disclose where I ended up but I can say once again this exhaust system is legit and the best part is NO DRONE!!!! The first thing you need to do is purchase the M235i, then the second thing you need to do is buy this exhaust. I have put together a video for your enjoyment. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I love this car and this system. I really couldn't be any happier! Thank you AWE and keep up the great work that you guys are all known for! I will recommend everyone to you for anything BMW related!!!!

Unsatisfactory BMW service experience.

My unsatisfactory experience (today) at Passport BMW

I want to make the disclaimer that my only prior experience with "premium" vehicles was with Audi. I had a 2010 S4 which was primarily serviced at Audi Silver Spring. All of my comparisons are from my experience there.

I made my appointment 1month ago (for today) for my 1200 mile break-in service. Booking process at the time was smooth, I got the time I wanted due to the in-advance notice.

I show up today at my appointed time, 7:30. My SA was cordial, however, lacking the collegial, friendly demeanor with my Audi SA. At no point during the booking process did he ask if I had any questions about the service being performed today or give me an estimate time of completion.

He tells me to proceed to the Loaner car desk. The lady there basically ignored me. Her co-worker sitting next to her realized this, and asked if he could help me. And to my dismay, he stated that there were no loaners available. He sent me back over to my SA to get a slip for Enterprise.

Luckily the Enterprise desk is onsite, but I had to provide a $100 security hold and received a rather dingy/smelly nissan sentra.

I was in a rush to get to my doctors appointment, so I got on my way.

My feedback:
I made the assumption, because I received a loaner every time with Audi unspoken, that I would receive a BMW loaner also. Especially, with a 1month notice of appointment.

The Audi service was well orchestrated, I was greeted warmly and promptly at my car. I was in and out after dropoff within 10 minutes. I received an Audi S4 loaner for the day. I was the 3rd owner of that S4, one that I bought privately. And Audi of SS made me feel like I bought a 2015 off their showroom yesterday.

1st world problems, I know....and this post could be interpreted as self-serving or entitled. But I felt that my service experience was so far off the mark that I had to put it on paper. If my experiences with Audi was a 9 out of 10. This experience was a 3 or 4.

Apologies for the rant.

I don't know what to think...

I'm kind of insulted by this photoshop that they did of my car. :(

Original color!

Like i can understand that you took the photo and it's your property.. but this is just silly.

Jb stage 1 no usb connection?

Is this an early production model or something ? I have had this same tune before and remember it having a USB port , the harness is a type b and I feel the power, so I know it's working but does anyone else know why there is no USB port?

Best practice for driving mode transitions

This is a very basic question because it has been a very long time since I have owned an automatic, and never one with four separate driving modes (Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport +) so please bear with me if these questions are pretty basic:

- You can change modes up and down "on the fly" but does this mean you should? Does it stress the engine to change driving modes at speed and is it better practice to switch modes when stopped, say at a traffic light?

- During a freeway drive in Sport mode just now, it struck me that Comfort mode is much better suited to freeway driving. Why set the car to an aggressive gearing/suspension profile when Comfort mode will save gas at 80 - 100 mph, provide a smoother, quieter ride and you can still "kick down" a gear or two if you need to hustle past a fast truck. Do you think this is a sound theory? And if so (see above) is there any reason to be hesitant about switching from Sport to Comfort mode at 80 mph or above?

Again, apologies for the very elementary questions. It's great that you can shift modes in motion and the technology is truly impressive but this is a revvy, over-achieving engine and even though I like to drive hard when it's safe, I want to preserve the car and not subject it to unnecessary forms of stress. Many thanks.

First drag race!

Went to Bandimere for the first time to tonight in my M235xi. Never raced before so I was pretty nervous. First pass was 13.595s which I though was a good start (I'm car 34):

But then the next 4 passes were terrible, all in the low 14s. I think the car was pulling power. Intake air temps were 130-140F, I don't know if that is terrible or not? Here is a typical pass:

After I let the car cool and the sun went behind the mountain I tried another pass and accidentally hit 2nd gear right off the line. Still ran a 13.8 though. Fastest pass was just Sport+ with the tranny in S. My attempts in manual weren't very good, but then it is hard to tell for sure since the car was hot (I guess?) at that point. Any tips?

Moonlight silver in the wild

Anyone seen Moonlight Silver in the wild? I am ordering tomorrow and am still on the fence on the color. I am contemplating:
  • Moonlight Silver
  • Mineral Grey
  • Alpine White
  • Deep Sea Blue

I love the Moonlight Silver on the Web but nothing beats seeing a color in person. I am worried that the color may be too beige (and consequently make me look my actual age for buying it).

Failed Lease Assumption with 2Addict Member

Hi all,

Just wanted to share my experience trying to assume a lease from one of the members on this board, in hopes to shed some light on what else could have been done, or to make sure others dont waste their time.

This is not to flame the member, as I wont mention his name unless someone asks, but just sharing my experience to see if I was in the wrong, or if I was right in not going any further with him.

He currently has a 2014 M235i on the classifieds as a lease takeover. I messaged him and it took over a week for him to get back with me via message. No problem, totally get it, people have lives. He finally called me 1.5 weeks later to discuss meeting up to look at the car and get the process started. We live/work close so I figured this would be a painless process to assume the lease on a great car for a great price. We texted, and ended up talking on the phone. We set up a meeting tonight to look at the car.

All was going well until he asked/told me that I would be required to pay half of the MSDs to him ($1750 up front - 7 MSDs for $3500) via check. We would then start the application process, and I would give him the rest of the MSDs upon key turnover.

Now, I understand MSDs and have no problem giving $3500 to the person giving over the lease, knowing that I will get the $3500 at the end of the lease now that it is in my name. However, giving, for all intents and purposes, a complete stranger, $1750 via check before anything is in writing, was completely crazy to me.

He told me this was a "sign of good faith" and "to let him know I was serious", and that "this isnt going to work out without trust" and my response to that is that no one who isnt serious, its going to pay the $530 application fee to BMW to start the process. If he is asking to trust him, than he should trust me that I'm serious about the process and paperwork and the $3500 will be paid over at key turnover/paperwork being signed. I even offered to put the money in escrow as a sign of good faith, which is much safer than just giving someone a check, if this was something he really required now instead of in 2 weeks when the lease transfer was approved.

I brought this up to him, and his response was "ok I understand, I will require $500 upfront and we can figure out the rest during the phase of the lease transfer"

He kept on stressing that hes under no pressure to get rid of the lease, that he can sell it to someone else on the forum, that he can sell the car to carmax, I cant get a M235i for this price anymore, etc.

It was at this point that I told him I would not be pursuing the vehicle as I would not, under any circumstances, be giving him any cash or check up front. He then wished me good luck on my car search, sent me a picture of his car invoice for some reason, told ME that I wasted HIS time, and that was that.

I am at work and I'm sure I left out some details as im in sales and its crazy here at the end of the month, and to be completely honest, I'm still dumbfounded over the conversation I just had with the board member, so please ask if something doesn't make sense. I also took screenshots of all the conversations.

Once again, I am new to the BMW lease process and this is not to flame the user, but it seemed, to be completely honest, to be a complete scam, unless I am missing something.

Just wondering what you guys thought, and if I dodged a bullet on this or I am overreacting? And if it does seem fishy, to warn others against dealing with this member.

M235i where the M stands for Miami

The wait for my car is over... kinda of.

My car came in this past weekend and I took delivery of it on Sunday.

As luck would turn out - this whole week I am away on business :mad0260:

Before I flew out I took the car out for a couple quick photos to give me something to play around with in PS. Tint has been added digitally but it has convinced me to get it done this coming weekend when I get home.

Vinyl Wrap

I know its an Infinity...but

Spent last weekend starting a vinyl wrap job with a friend. It was our first time attempting it and its coming out great. Just taking a long time and its a good thing that he bought extra wrap.

Hoping to have a 2014 M235i soon that I will be able to wrap myself. Good thing I'm learning on his car!

BMW i5 Concept

BMW i brand has been a fresh breath of air showing other auto makers that the Germans still do it better. As the 3 series get bigger and more family, it interesting how the i brand has had free range with design. I saw other i5 concepts of boring commuter, but beleive BMW can bring a nice Tesla fighter. Hopefully i'm not dreaming.

LSD in every CPO car?

So i am looking at getting a 2014 M235i in the next couple months. Going through the BMW CPO part of the site I looked at many of the cars for sale. Every one I looked at had "limited slip differential" listed.

From what I understand this was an option, not on the base model.
Is it possible that the BMW site is actually accurate and most 2014 M235i's out there have this? Or is this just marketing and when you call to confirm they tell you that its only in some? Prob the more expensive ones.

Thanks!

also is there any way to check options via a vehicle number or something or would you have to call and ask?

And if it does seem fishy, to warn others against dealing with this member.

center cap part number?

I finally lost one after 7000 miles, but I think it was due to the heat of a track day. I don't have time to go to the dealership and would rather just order one on line. Does anyone have the part number handy?

New car questions.

I picked my m235i last weekend. The girl that goes over iDrive features didn't seem to want to spend much time going over everything except setting up my cell phone, and I figured I'd figure it out...eventually. Then I went of to a friends who's wife has a 2013 535 to go over iDrive. He went over most things.

But I have few of things I questions he didn't know.

1. After setting the radio stations to the 8 buttons how can I select (scroll) the 8 stations on the steering wheel. My ZHP had an Up and Down arrow for this and + and - for volume. I only see the + and - for volume. I'd rather switch radio stations on the steering wheel. Can I?

2. We popped the hood and I didn't see an oil dip stick. He thought you probably use the oil levels displayed in iDrive display. Did I miss the dip stick when I looked in the engine compartment? :confused2

BTW: I was surprised to see some space on left and right side of the engine in the engine bay.

3. Is the a specific m235 iDrive manual?

thx.

Cigarette lighter charger with USB adapter: safe for iPhone?

Today the dealership called to tell me that BMW had discontinued the snap-in cradle for the iPhone 5, therefore my order for one for my 2-series cannot be fulfilled and I will be getting a refund. I probably dodged a bullet, as everyone says they are virtually useless anyway (and way too expensive) but now that a lightning cable to the car's USB port appears to be the only option to keep my phone charged, I have the following question re. a possible alternative:

- People say that it is hazardous to charge a phone via the car's lighter connector but how many of you do it? I am asking because the middle storage compartment on the 2 series is a little awkwardly placed and does not allow a device connected to the USB port inside the compartment to be stowed where the driver can see it, i.e. on a mount in the car's cabin itself. This is because when the lid is closed, the connection cable cannot be snuck out through a port. This means that if I want my iPhone to be visible and mounted, it would either have to be disconnected from the available charger or hooked up to the lighter socket. Can somebody please comment on this and let me know how you all address this issue? It must be pretty commonplace. Many thanks.

Long Beach Blue Metallic M2 launch color?

I thought I read somewhere that LBB would be the launch color for the M2. I just saw it in the flesh for the first time.

Pictures off my iPhone don't show it very well but it's definitely turquoise.

Here's a 2016 X6M modeling it for us :D

What do you guys think?

New EWG board upgrade

Back to BW Chiptune today

On the same dyno as used previously with old JB4 board map 6 380 Bhp/450lbft at the crank (without FF and EWG wires) to see gains with refettled map 6 on new EWG board, ff and EWG wires, sports cat, AFE ram air scoop and AFE dry drop in filter

Car came up to 395bhp/460lbft at the crank with 16.5 psi and AFRs remaining safely in the early 12's at upper rev range.

On the road, car feels smoother and more progressive than before on new map6. Sounds different too, in a good way, more lusty.

When you get on the gas, it's even more of hoot 400+ lbft of torque from 2000 - 4750 rpm.......

Had a good chat with Jason. He has bought an EWG M135i to do some development work on to remap DME to improve fuelling and use map 6 on jb4 to control boost. I've asked him to keep me posted.....

As ever, top service from Jason and the guys at BW Chiptune.
