N54 misfire/hesitation between 2500 and 4500 rpm

I have a 2008 N54 335i with about 75k miles. It recently developed a misfire/hesitation between 2500 and 4500rpm. It is an auto but the misfire is most prominent when I hold full throttle in a high gear. Above 4500rpm the engine runs fine all the time.

I had similar misfire issues about 5k miles ago and replaced the coils and plugs which fixed the issues. The car has a JB4 and the issue is there with the JB4 off but is less severe.

I don't get any fault codes.

Anyone have any ideas? Given the problem happens in the mid range, it seems like another electrical problem but given the coils and plus are fairly new, it seems unlikely?

The car idles like a clock and outside of the 2500-4500 rpm range, runs absolutely fine.

Speed volume - how does it work

Sorry for the noob question but can someone please explain how the Speed Volume setting works? I see there is an adjustment bar and default the Speed Volume is set to the next to lowest setting. What happens as I increase it? As I increase it does it mean the volume will compensate more (get louder) as I drive faster?

L7 - Where is your balance set?

I have noticed that I have to set my L-to-R balance 4-5 bars to the right in non-surround mode to have the soundstage be centered (coming from just left of the rearview mirror) in my E93 with L7. I do have some hearing loss in my right ear but it's not THAT bad.

Is there something wrong with my system or is this the norm for L7?

Used M3 Maint

When I bought my 2011 M3 in November it had 17k miles and now it's at 18.5k. How do I know when the last time fluids, tires, and all those stuff were changed? I know there's a 15k service so should I just do oils and everything at 20k or do it now so I can keep the time table. The warranty runs out in April and I plan to extend it.

WTB: KW Sleeve over

2015 Resolutions

Let's hear what your resolution(s) is for 2015! Do you want to change something, start something, finally finish something, go somewhere, buy something, save more?

Let's hear it! Serious answers of course but stupidity is always welcome too :)

sdrive35i Reliability?

I know the 335i has a reputation for not exactly matching Toyota in reliability. Does that go for the sdrive35i as well?

e85 sdrive30i vs e85 3.0si

Anyone have any thoughts on the comparison of these two cars as far as performance? I would be interested in a manual transmission on both.

Also, how would the reliability compare between the two?

Thanks.

Dealer financing... How much do they lend?

I just bought another car and was wondering what point do they say no to lending. I have good credit and a decent job but they have never verifed my income. So if I want to by a 100k car do they verify? I am not buying one I was just wondering.

The latest news on the Z06

How practical is 20" wheels on our cars?

Just curious to hear from owners of cars with 20" wheels if you had any durability issues especially with the smaller width front wheel. I had 20x10 wheels on my AWD Audi S5 with KW V1 coilovers and never had any issues here in Socal. From what I read people usually put 8.5" or 9" width wheel on the front and go with a 245/30 which would give over 1" less in sidewall than the stock 18" wheel (225/45).

Anyway, would greatly appreciate your thoughts. I think perhaps a 19" wheel is more practical for a daily driver. In that case I would go with a 255/40 which would only give 1/2" less sidewall than stock.

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Bath Time!

Had the day off and wifey was at work so I didn't clean the casa and cleaned the E90 instead. Also made a little video.

X6 compared to X5?

what's the difference on the X6 other than the different exterior shape compared to the X5? does it drive way different than the X5? for the ppl that got the X6, what's the reason you went for it over the X5? I'm actually a huge fan of the previous generation X6, always wanted one and drool over the X6 M when I see one. New X6 design when I first saw it was a bit of a disappointment but it's starting to grow on me.

Changing homepage in CIC

I have a CIC retrofit in my '07 M3. I want to change my homepage from Google, and anyone here know how I may do this. Is this a coding thing? Thanks in advance.

WTB E90 M3

Firstly, Happy New Year to All!

I'm still on the hunt for my needle in the haystack. I'm looking for a M3 with DCT that's silverstone or space gray. It must be my imagination but there are so many white and black ones compared to the SS or SG ones, maybe because all those with the latter are not wanting to sell?

Prefer 2011 (but would consider other years), w/lower miles, and Comp package. Added bonus for CW, Tech, Conv., Premium and CPO. West Coast car would be sweet since I'm in Portland but will consider the right one elsewhere.

If you're selling now or thinking about selling in the future, let's chat. I have cash on hand so no need to worry about getting financing. I'd much rather find one here than shop on AutoTrader, CL, Carmax etc. where I have no idea of the care the previous owner(s) gave the car.

Thanks for the read and if this ad doesn't apply to you, I'd appreciate any leads on a M3 that might fit the bill.

E90 how to disable soft stop

I have a 2008 328i (E90), I am trying to disable the soft stop as there is grinding noise from rear of the car when coming to a full stop. It sounds like brake pressure is reduced to the rear wheels just about when coming to a full stop.

In the DSC module I have soft stop as C0B_SST wert_01. What value should the C0B_SST be set as to disable the soft stop feature ?

Thanks

Need help before Friday when I sign the deal

I have two routes I can go through, but can someone tell me which one makes more sense.

1. I purchase car for $61,609.80 (including tax + all fees + student rebate) and take BMW APR for 3.12%. Initially I was going to pay the first payment and refinance for 1.99% after the first month. The dealer told me that I can't do this because I have to atleast keep this loan for 90 days which means that I have to make 4 payments.

2. I purchase the car for $62,609.80 and finance from an outside lender for 1.99%. This means I would pay a total $3,218.34.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Red Floating Stick in Coolant Reservoir Housing

Does anyone know why my 2006 E90 330i doesn't have the red floating/measuring stick? Any E90's with Style 252?

Title says it. Seems like a good way to get a 19" forged wheel for a reasonable price. Has anyone put them on their E90? Have yet to find one running these.

Low brake fluid indicator on service menu

When I check my service schedule menu from the button on the indicator stick. I'm getting a red low brake fluid icon. Does that mean I have low break fluid, or does that mean I'm due for a brake fluid replacement service?

It only shows on the service menu, not as a warning indicator.

Used 1-2 yr old 650 GC or new M3

I asked the same question in M3 forum and of course I get 90% response for M3 and all the reasons why. But to be fair I wanted to ask 6 series forum and see what response I would get. I will be coming off a tune 335 with basically all upgrades possible minus upgraded turbos. I'm not sure if I want to do any more tuning on next vehicle, maybe some cosmetic only. So I would like a vehicle that runs well stock. I don't track and I need 4 doors. I thought about 1-2 year old M5 but reviews aren't great so I am hesitant. Any thoughts? I like them all and my budget is $65-$75k.

Where are all the PA M3/M4 people?

SO I wanted to start a thread for PA members where we can trade ideas, tips, pics and maybe even set up some Cars and Coffee meets this spring/summer. I searched and did not see any threads like this so if it is a re post admins you can delete. So my fellow PA people post where you are located and what you drive.

Ill start:

Currently I have a 2014 Z4 35Isdrive AW/DCT/Full Options ( Soon to have either a M4 or GTR having some trouble deciding but I am 90% sold on the M4:drool:) I am in Mechanicsburg. I have not seen any M3/M4's in my area and am wondering where all you guys are hiding...lol...

Anyone installed Carbon Fiber Badges?

On my E46 M3 I had purchased a full set of carbon fiber look badges (not overlays) for the car. After emailing various vendors it seems that most of the badges are available EXCEPT the hood badge for some reason. Perhaps it's a unique size?

Has anyone replaced all of their badges with the carbon look ones?

And, if that doesn't pan out, do the overlay stickers look as bad as it sounds or does it look ok?

Cheap Damaged 19" Wheels M6 Style With Tyres (wide/aggresive)

Hi All - recently purchased these with the intention of repairing and refurbing them but due to damage to my current wheels I can't afford to get both done and it's cheaper to repair my current ones since they have already had a refurb.

They were previously on an E90 so will fit all E9x

First of all 1 of the rear wheels has 3 cracks and the other has 1.

Rear Wheel 1 - 3 cracks 2 welds and another repair. Damaged tyre so can't confirm if they hold air.

Rear Wheel 2 - 1 crack and 1 weld appears to be holding air.

All repairs have been coated with a black paint which I was told was to prevent corrosion to the weld.

both front wheels are good with no cracks. All wheels are straight with no buckles.

Fronts: Wheels - 8.5j ET29 Tyres 2 x 235/35/19 Kumho Ecsta

Rears: Wheels - 9.5j ET23 Tyres 2 x 265/30/19 PHI Accelera (1 dead!)

All tyres are legal with plenty of miles left but won't be measuring them to avoid disputes.

They have previously been refurbed in BMW Graphite Grey but have the marks expected after 2 years of use.

Looking for £200 delivered.

Recalls on x5 5.0

Greetings. Just at the dealer, Nalley in Atlanta. Sa told me there are two recalls on my car having to do with broken timing chain. Bmw is holding off though because the reprogram is not working so the other option is to remove engine from the car and replace the chain. She said she has s vehicle that has been in for two months with the issue.

Nothing related to injectors though.

Happy new year. Check out the Porsche macan. If you can handle the smaller size, it's a winner!

3.5 TMAP SENSOR - N55 with VTT Stage 2 Turbo + Meth.

Whats up guys.

When I installed my vtt stage 2 turbo, tony and terry recomended me to get the 3.5 tmap sensor, so that it could read more then the 21 psi the stock sensor can read. After installing this, Iv had several issues. First was that the FF did not adjust by itself, but this was my mistake, because for some reason FUD was on 99, which blocks the FF learning when set in this value. it must be ZERO.

The other issue was my PSI reading. I use the jb4 hicjack gauge on the gas gauge to show the pressure, but I also have an analog gauge inside my car, which is connected to the throttle body with a hose, so it is VERY "analogue".

Both gauges were showing boost of 15 psi tops. When I asked terry this, he said that the gas gauge hijack now changed from 0-36 psi, when before it was 0-21 (or 20) so the scale changed. This made sense, but still my analogue watch does not show the 20 that it should show. This is an issue I still dont find a solution, but i didnt give it too much thought as it did not affect me really.

But this brings me to my third issue. JB4 is giving VERY strange readings. when i double tap the BOOST display on the jb4 app, i am showing max boosts of 28 or 26! Then when I do WOTS, it climbs to 26 psi, but it definitly does NOT feel like 26 psi! I didnt notice this until a friend with a similar set up but no turbo upgrade told me that his car is charging 18 psi, and that it feel a lot stronger. I rode his car and he was right... his 17-18 psi felt A LOT stronger then my "26-28" psi that jb4 was reading.

And believe it or not, this brings me to my final issue. Last night testing the car with this guy, my car would enter fail safe mode EVERY time. I asked terry this and after seeing a log, he told me to raise it to 22.6 psi as failsafe. The problem kept happening obviously, since jb4 thinks im charging arond 26 psi.

I dont know if this is a reading problem with the sensor, as i dont FULLY understand how this sensor works. I have done a lot of reading, but being that english is not my first language, and that i am not an expert as most of you guys, i still dont have it clear. there is another user (i hope he reads this and chimes in) that had the same issues, and he ended up taking the sensor off. I am begining to see this as an option, but dont know if this is a good idea with my set up. Also, i dont understand if this sensor will help me squeeze more power from the turbo then the original sensor? I know its only inteded for the car to READ more, but does this READING MORE translate into an increase in power at all?

I hope you guys can help me, as I think I am not the first with the issue, and wont be the last. every day more guys are upgrading their turbo on their n55, and the tmap sensor is one of those things that you "should" get.

Below is the link for datazip, hope you guys can help. as always, thank you eternally!

Wrapping my car, what color should I do? I can't decide!

Okay, I can wrap this thing any color I want, my business wraps cars as well as printing, signage and fixtures. So I have seen everything, I do not want a matte color or any gold or chromed (I mean I have to drive this in the real world) but when you can do anything it's hard to decide. And not a fan of bright and flashy...

I forgot to mention white is my favorite car color, so I am leaning toward a lighter color. I just want to change it up for now.

Oh did I mention I will powder coat the wheels! Trying to decide on that as well, maybe dark tint, matte textured dark grey or gloss black????

Any input will help!

Here is the car

Here is the number one contender, gloss light grey

Here is the color I was going to do

Thanks to R1 Motorsport for taking the guess work out of seeing the color come to life!!!!

X5 diesel - Dyno runs with Racechip ultimate

Hey everyone, I just ordered the Racechip ultimate for my 2014 X5 Diesel and it should arrive within the week. I have also scheduled an appointment to dyno the car on January 16th. I will be doing 6 runs; 2 base line, 2 at default setting and perhaps 2 at 2 clicks up from default. I'm the type that likes hard data and since I cannot find any independent hard data/testing on the Racechip, I decided to pursue it myself.

Please feel free to make suggestions on the tune settings for my 6 dyno runs. Also note, I plan to run the car with the Racechip two weeks prior to familiarize the DME with the new readings. I'll likely run the higher setting on the dyno first before running a base line, or would anyone suggest doing the opposite?

Will keep everyone updated.

Active Autowerkes Tune

Does anybody have the G5 tool that is required to install a tune onto a 2008 e90 328i? I will compensate you with cash money or beer. whichever works for you. and I would obviously come to you.

the place that I would do the install at wants $150 to do that. seems kinda steep.

Am I the only one who isn't a GTR fanboi?

**WARNING. THE BELOW MAY OFFEND SOME READERS. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK**

I have given the GTR much thought lately, and I am trying to figure out what all the fuss is about.

I know the M3 and the Nissan GTR are in different leagues. The GTR kills the M3 in performance. Never ridden in one, so I can't really comment on quality, but I am sure they are very well made. With that though comes a much higher price tag. Brand new, MSRP for the GTR is about $30k more than the M3. Used prices are still around $20k - $30k more than a similar year and mileage M3.

All that being said, cost not being an issue, if someone came up to me tomorrow and said "you can either keep your M3, or I will give you this GTR, no strings attached, but you lose the M3", I wouldn't make the trade.

Anyone else share these sentiments?

Call me crazy, but I just don't see what all the hype is about the GTR. It's impressive. It's fast. It's probably an experience to drive one. But IMO, it's expensive, it's a Nissan, it doesn't have the same prestige as an M3, and it's not particularly attractive looking. It strikes me as an 80's Datsun that someone brought to the future in a time machine, and tried to disguise with a modern touch so they would fit in. I respect them, I just don't have the desire to own one, or ever even ride in one :confused2

The M3 turns my head every time, and I drive one every day. When I see one driving down the road, I do a 180* as it passes and stare at it. I love the body lines, the stance, the sleek styling. It is a timeless design, and will remain so throughout the years. The GTR doesn't do that for me. I see them all the time, and though I think "GTR, nice car", I don't see myself doing a double take and staring at it as it passes.

I've read many online threads where people go back and forth arguing whether or not the GTR is a "supercar" or not. I think if you consider what the typical "supercar" characteristics are (mid engine, 2 door, 2 seater, lower production numbers, typically, but not necessarily a European auto maker, massive amounts of power from an engine with at least 10 cylinders, sleek, low to the ground, sexy styling, and a high price tag) that the GTR doesn't qualify. Does it rival many supercars in performance? Absolutely, but that doesn't make it a supercar. :confused2 I may be out of line here, but it seems to me the only people that claim the GTR is a proper "supercar" are either current owners who are trying to glorify and justify their high dollar purchase by trying to make it out to be more than it really is, or GTR fanboi's who have never driven one (and are probably too young to do so legally) and only obsess over it because it's a "Skyline" (because JDM racecar!!1!)

I've been wanting to get that off my chest for a couple days now, so thanks for reading. I do feel 10x better :happyanim:

Does anyone share the same opinion as me? I apologize if I've managed to offend anyone. That wasn't my intention. Just wanted to know if anyone was in the same boat as me where the GTR is concerned, or if I am the only one on the planet who doesn't obsess over this overpriced clunky Datsun.

2009 128i - Manual Trans - Black on Red - Sport/Premium

I love, love, love this car. But, racecar needs take priority, and I need to buy a truck to tow my M3 with and it makes no sense to keep three cars around.

I've got a 2009 BMW 128i, 6-speed manual. Jet Black on Coral Red. About to kiss 60,500 miles but will increase as I commute 40 miles a day for work. It's been around VIR and Summit Point (once each, yay pedigree!) and has similar power-to-weight as the E36 M3 of yore.

Things it has per the ETK spec sheet:

  • Sport Package (sport seats, suspension, blacked out trim)

  • Premium Package (some of the below is likely part of it, don't want to leave anything out though)

  • Xenon/HID headlights, automatic and self-leveling/swiveling

  • Comfort Access keyless entry and start

  • Heated seats (were available without Cold Weather package, so you lose out on the useless headlight washers)

  • iDrive (CIC) with Navigation - maps have been updated to 2014

  • Logic7 sound system with USB/Aux inputs (highest audio option in '09)

The car has the BMW Maintenance package on it until July 2015 or 100k miles, whichever comes first. That will cover oil changes, brakes, and wiper blades.

I bought the car last December at 44k miles. It was leased for three years when new, to a couple in DC. They turned it in, and a lady in Maryland owned it for a year, then I bought it. I have the maintenance history from BMW of Alexandria from day one.

In my ownership, I've replaced the drive belt tensioner. I did a round of fluid changes at 50k (oil, brake/clutch, trans) and replaced spark plugs. The oil filter housing gasket is leaking and I have purchased the new gasket but not yet installed it. The seep is 1/2 qt every ~6,000 miles. I was planning to replace the coolant when I replaced the OFHG, as it appears you drain the coolant to pull the housing. Give it a week or so and that work should be done.

The car will come on a set of 17x7.5" DSII's from an E36 M3. I do not have the stock wheels anymore. The DSII's have fresh all-season tires on them, but do not have TPMS sensors installed. They are my winter setup, I have a set of BBS CH with TPMS and good summer rubber that can be included for the right price. The TPMS system does work and can tell you which wheel is low on air.

Pix below from my time with the car, it's dirty right now so a proper photo shoot will have to wait until I can clean 'er up, please PM with inquiries. Looking for $17k OBRO - a bit above KBB value but I feel the three-pedal, loaded N52 combination is pretty unique and worth it to the right person. Obviously, any reasonable offer will be considered.

I'm located in Northern VA, right outside DC.
