So in case anyone hasn't caught the news, there was a shooting in Garland Texas where people had met up to discuss free-speech with regards to Islam. Also at the event was a drawing contest focused on depicting the prophet Muhammad.
Apparently, 2 (still unidentified) shooters opened fire on people at the event, injuring 1 private security guard. Police, presumably already on scene as security, returned fire and killed both individuals.
No news on whether the 2 gunmen were affiliated with any sort of Islamic extremist group.

Obviously the subject matter of the event was very controversial. But with the free speech laws as they exist here in the US, none of that matters. Free speech = free speech IMHO. I'm just a bit frustrated and concerned that all that 'extremism' which we hear about occurring in foreign countries has made its way back to our shores yet again.
