Hi everyone,
Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I looked around and figured that maybe this would be the best since I noticed people were posting issues in here as well.
About a month ago, I picked up a 2013 F30 which I love. I was vacuuming the carpeting after I had gotten dirt and leaf bits onto it and I noticed rust on the underside of the seats. The rust is pretty bad and covers about 80% of the surface of the metal, and continues up to the hinge if I tilt the seat's back all the way down.
I went onto google and looked up this issue, and it seems pretty wide spread. I'm well educated on what's happened, why it's happened, and what do to about it now.
When I took it to my dealership (Yark BMW, Central Avenue Toledo, OH) to inspect, the service manager said to my face that they would be willing to replace both front seats entirely since the rust would possibly go into the backrest portion of the seat. I've been trying to get a hold of the service manager Keith 7 times now and have left him voicemails with my name, phone number, and e-mail. He's left me 2 voice mails while I'm at work, and he only says "Hi this is Keith at Yark BMW, following up about your rusty seats, call me, thanks!"
Finally, one of the service assistants told me that they were not going to replace the seats because they assume it's just cosmetic. As we all know, rust progresses and doesn't just stay the same. It'll get worse, and it's already bad.
I tried calling BMW of North America, and they gave me the same run around about it being potentially just cosmetic.
As of right now, I'm sure the seat frame still holds it's structural integrity pretty well, but years from now, that rust will weaken it. The car is only 1.5 years old, and it shouldn't have rust. I bought a BMW to get away from the typical boring japanese cars out on the market. I bought a BMW to have the "Ultimate driving machine", but with my experience from my dealership, and BMW of North America, I feel more like I bought the "Ultimate compromise machine".
What can I do to get this problem solved? The car is still under the 4 year, 50,000 warranty if that helps. I shouldn't have to be told that I'd have to pay out of my own pocket to get this fixed, and it's ridiculous.
