Mods & Vehicle Reliability

Hi -

I'm quite the tinkerer, and would probably tinker myself out of a car if given the chance. I thought it would be wise to ask - given that my 235 is my daily driver as well as my happy-fun-time car - what sort of things should realistically be avoided? I've read our engines are good up to around 380/400 hp, and then things start to have trouble long term. I've seen cars dyno well over that level as well...

I've done the JB4 (map2 is fun!), I did the charge pipe this last weekend because I worried about the stock pipe splitting one day (working on a DIY post for that actually). I'd like to do a down pipe as well - I can't see that really breaking anything but emissions law - but is there a limit where you'd recommend backing off? Are there mods that bridge the car more into the track car where it only has to be reliable for half a day and then it's back in for maintenance? Pure Turbo replacements? I love having a car where I can actually tinker with things, and it's a lot of fun (and somewhat frustrating.. garage floors suck!!), but I do need to keep the car as reliable as I can within reason.

Forgive my somewhat noob thread.. I'm really just curious! We're a two car family, but as any of you know it's not so easy to carpool all the time when your car breaks down.

I know the N55 is generally a great proven engine - which is part of why I own this car, but... What systems of the car/engine actually break down over time at higher power levels? About what is that level? What mods (or lack thereof) tend to speed that up?
