Got my 2016 Valencia orange 228i!

Just picked it up today. I will miss my Camaro but will definitely enjoy my newest sports car... It's Valencia orange, oyster sensatec interior, and a sunroof. Those are it for my options. Can't wait to drive it. The first pictures (sun went down before I could get more... 2 hours at the dealership. Ugh.) Say hi if you see me driving around SoCal.

After my fuel pump broke, I had to have my cars computer entirely reset.

I just realized that when my xenons are switched to off, my corona rings aren't on. Can this be changed?

Also: now my car locks all doors automatically when I'm driving. Can I undo this??

Be sure the valves are in the open position before disconnecting the plugs and installing this kit or your valves will stay shut and be unable to open!

In order to disconnect the factory plug you need to reach on top and depress a small lever and it will release and pull back. You can see the small lever you need to push on in my install video above.

Next step is to simply install the plug into the valve, here we will be using the male plug provided (shorter of the two). This is done by sliding it in until you feel the latch click and it lock in place. The plug will only fit one way, do not force anything, if it doesn't feel right flip it over and attempt again.

Now that the valve is taken care of we need to tie up the loose connector. First simply slide the female connector (Longer of the two) into the factory plug. This will also only fit one way so do not force anything, just try both ways and you will very clearly feel which is right.

Now that the wiring is sealed up all that is left to do is use the provided zip ties to keep the wiring from dangling and flapping around. Simply fold the wiring back on itself and tie the two together. I felt that left the plug a little floppy so I folded that back and zip tied it to the wiring to keep everything tight and together. Trim zip ties accordingly once everything is secured.

At this point we are all done and can admire our work. Its nice to enjoy the fun this cheap mod can provide without the risk of damaging sensitive electronic components.

2016 m235i LSD - no more port install option?

The '15 MY configurator had the M limited slip differential as an option I think to be port installed but now it seems to be gone in the '16 configurator.

Anyone here work for BMW or recently order with information? Can the LSD still be port installed on special orders?

Can driving be illegal in the future?

Just pondering. Thinking about the far distant future. If self-driving vehicles become common and fairly accident-safe, human-powered cars will become less and less common and at some point be considered a risk. Driving will be a luxury, a privilege restricted to closed courses. And street driving become illegal. Possible?

I'm not sure if this will happen in my lifetime but I guess this stuff can happen.

Thinking about it makes me want to go out and drive :)

Break in rule?

Drove a brand new 235i automatic a few days ago. Still had plastic on my headrest when i got into it. The salesman told me to floor it going onto the highway to get a feel for the performance/accel. He said bmw's have no break in period. I was skeptical about this and felt bad about flooring it (my acura had a break in period when i got it, my dads new benz had a break in period under 1k miles etc).

Any truth to his claim that bmw's do not specify a break in period? If it is false, this is the precise reason i would want to custom order a car. I dont trust anyone driving it before me. I was sitting at a porsche parking lot a week ago on my phone before i looked around and a guy who who worked there took a cayman s out on the street, sticker in window, probably to grab lunch around noon and basically floored it after getting out of the lot. Who knows how else it has been beat up. I wouldnt want to buy that car...would you??

Break in rule?

Drove a M235i 6MT this weekend

Finally found a 6MT car to drive in the SEA WA area. :)

This was a trade in 2015 car with most of the M performance goodies on it (exhaust, defuser, shifter, carbon interior, etc).

Premium pkg, everything but nav.

10K miles

CPO Elite to 75K miles.

Esotrial blue, black int.

Very impressed with the car. I could see this being a nice update to my E46 M3.

Downside is the asking price is quite high ($49K). At this point they are only willing to come down to $47K. MSRP was $54K.

At any rate I could see pulling the trigger if the right optioned car became available at the right price---for me.

For this weeks fun topic I thought it would be cool to discuss cars that can be bought with the least depreciation or even as an investment for the future.

When we look at cars like the E30 M3 with limited production that depreciated and the went up in value due to some key attributes we can see that buying one of these cars back then would have been a pretty good investment if you liked driving it, holding it, and then reselling it today.

Also there is the case of the 1M which was made in limited production and was the first Turbo M car ever. While the value is high currently and will surely depreciate over time and then may even go back up in value simular to the E30 M3.

I have been considering the E9x M3 for my next car as I feel like the one and only V8 M3 will go down in history as something special.

So my question here is:
In your opinion what are, or will be some excellent cars that you can buy now which will hold their value and possibly appreciate over time.

Thoughts on a Subaru BRZ?

First off, let me say I have no doubts about BMW. I currently have a 320i, my first BMW, and I love it! It's a nice entry into the brand.

I can afford the payments (lease), as well as all my other bills, but there's not a lot of room for much else in my budget. And yes I'm aware that owning a BMW is a want, and not a need :lol:

I've been passively looking around at different options, and I know a few members on the forum would agree that Subaru is a brand worth driving as well. I've always been fond of the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ, but I would more than likely consider Subaru due to better features. I love the look and the sportiness of the car, but I've never driven one. Looking at YouTube videos online, it's pretty clear the car is simplistic, and geared more towards the driving experience rather than the amenities that come with the car.

Has anyone ever driven/owned one and want to chime in on their experiences or opinions? :D

Cracked my windshield the other day - it not very long, perhaps about 8 inches... what do you guys recommend, OEM or Safelite?
Is this something that needs to be done right away or would you wait? I dont want to change it and then crack it again.... or should I just belly up and get it changed? Thoughts?

16 inch rims on Canadian 228i

Hi guys!

I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of my 228i and have been looking at my options for winter tires.

I was wondering if 16 inch BBS SR rims would fit on my Canadian 228i (non Msport brakes). I plan to pair this with a 195/60R16 blizzak.

I tried searching the forums and have only came across another Canadian who bought 16 inch rims (but were of a different brand) and noted that they ended up not being able to fit.

The reason I ask this is because getting the 17" combination would increase the price by over $400! Thus I was hoping to be able to save some money.

What would be the best way to check if the rims would fit on my 228i?

So is this going to be the first car developed by BMW to unveil without a concept? Or will it be the first car to unveil as a concept without an unveiling of a production model? Seems strange that production starts in November/December and no concept as yet.

Winter Setup

This local forum is so dead.

Just a quick question? I live in the Chicagoland area. What winter setup (tires+wheels) do you guys run?

I need to buy a set in 1-2 months and I'm thinking about Blizzak WS 80s, LM 32s, or Nokian Hakkapellitas.
I'm just not sure if I need a set of regular winter tires or winter performance tires.
On my previous ride (MK6 GTI) I was running Nokian WRG3 all weather plus tires during the winter and they were great but my 235i is a rear wheel drive so I think I would need tires with more grip. Thanks in advance.

TMZ Sports has learned Rousey just got an offer to star in "Captain Marvel XXX: An Axel Braun Parody." The offer's short on details -- like her character's name or powers -- but it's a lucrative deal. Braun says he'll pay Ronda $5 mil for 3 sex scenes.

Here's what's odd -- he says she'll need to shoot for 2 weeks! Sounds like way more dialogue than the average porno. As we reported, Braun made a similar offer to Ben Affleck's ex-nanny.

This isn't the first time Rousey has been linked to the adult film industry ... there is already an XXX parody about her called "Ronda ArouseMe."

M235i would do with wider tires...

My M235i when in Sport+ mode (or simply with ATC on and drivetrain in Sport) will break up the rear wheels' grip at a city speed (some 50 km/h), when - with rpm at some 2,000 - I floor the gas pedal, even on a dry & clean asphalt. Thanks to LSD, it still keeps a straight line with only minimal steering intervention...

Now that can be a great fun, but don't you agree it should be leaving factory with a tad wider rear tires?

What is the maximum tire width the M235i will accept without any rubbing or bodywork - anyone tested?

Miata - stick?

Looking at the ND miata...getting into the age old debate re: manual vs. auto. It's not really an issue of which is "better" to drive - I'm well aware of the pro's and cons that ppl have debated forever....

The thought is - if using this for scenic convertible drives, would the manual take away too much attention from the surroundings and act as a distraction?

i.e. if you were to take one up highway 1 in california or through a scenic canyon twisty, which one would you rather have - manual for road engagement, or auto to free up the mental "task load"?

Front Left Tire Picked Up A Small Screw - Thoughts?

Hey guys,

Little hiccup this morning...my left tire picked up a small screw while I was driving near a construction zone. Drove to my local Good Year shop that was right around the corner where they removed it, tested whether it had punctured the tire and the good news was that it did not. The CA who was very helpful told me that I was good to go and that I was all set to hit the road. I was surprised they didn't try to up-sell me telling me I needed a new tire or that they should be plugging or patching. I monitored the pressure all day and it hasn't moved, so it seems to confirm that there is in fact no leak.

I am attaching a picture of the tire post-screw removal (sorry about the potato quality, dark setting in the garage forced me to go with the flash!). What do you guys think? Good to go? Screw was small so hole is not deep but it obviously left a mark. Also FYI I am running on the standard mixed summer Michelin Super Sport tires.

Well i own a start up company and i designed a product that prevents the lighting cables from breaking. Its a patent pended slip over strain relief designed specifically for the lighting cable. It comes in 5 colors and is a very cheap way to keep them from breaking. Its not a fix if it already broke, but it will prevent good working cable from breaking from regular use. Even from a connivence standpoint, not having a dead phone in the morning from a broken charger its worth it, or for $3.99, youd spend more on gas just to get a new one, although lets admit we love driving out cars haha
