Hey all, just wanted to say hi, I am a new member and new to the BMW cult!
I will be honest, I have never really been a BMW fan before, my wife wanted one for several years and I just did not get it. I would see a few I thought looked really nice and a lot more I did not care for the looks of...but did not konw the difference between the models.
I am a bit of a researcher...some may call it anal even! LOL! So when researching her car I found out what I liked and did not...we ordered her a 2014 535i in December - Dark Graphite Metallic / Ivory interior with MSport, Cold weather, Convenience I and II and one other package cannot remember name, maybe Preffered?. Her car also has the HUD - which is amazing IMHO. I never even test drove any of the models...her car, her thing but I ordered what I thought looked good (Msport).
I typically drive when we are together and after about 100 miles I really started liking the car...the next 100 miles I was positively in love with the car and running errands for my wife just so I could take her car! A test drive just does not do these cars justice. The ride, power, handling and overall performance...amazing.
Now, I have purchased a 2011 335is convertible. Vin E569957. CPO car being shipped to me as we speak...already has been 15 days since the wire transfer so beyond anxiety for the car to arrive would be accurate. Space Gray with Oyster interior, Nav, Parking Assist, HK stereo, heated seats and approx 24K miles. 1 Year of factory maintenance remains.
I am an IT Project Manager and live in a smaller town of approximately 40K population. I am a veteran Infantry Officer in the US Army, and would be classified as a firearm / gun SUPERFREAK. I compete in pistol, rifle and shotgun competitions and recently venturing into precision rifle. Main focus on pistol and I reload all my ammunition. As a family we are very big into ATVs and side X sides and have done tons of upgrades...pistons, cams, head work, suspension, etc. We have a 5th wheel toyhauler and also hike and primitive camp. I have three beautiful daughters ages 17, 15 and 9 and obviously a very understanding and supporting spouse...yep, she is definitely the better half!
Now for the dreaded newb questions:
1) Is my car an E93?
That is what the VIN lookup says but I see other people on here post the same year and model and state they have an E92? Naturally assuming others on here know a heck of a lot more then I do I feel I have missed something.
2) Oil changes...15K miles or 1 per year, really? Wow...that just seems like a terribly long time coming from a person that changes oil on the quads after each dune trip...yes, we have dunes in Oklahoma, look it up! LOL!
I assume I can do an oil change at 7500 miles on my own and BMW will still do the regular maintenance oil change at 15K?
That is the first of many newb questions I will hopefully find answers to in search but these were not easily found.
I do not have any mods really planned other then a backup camera and have found a couple of options on here but do not understand cost differences between the two. I have looked at the JB4 and Cob tuners and I am interested in one and an intake as it seems many of you are running the BMS DCI but can't find a clear JB4 or Cob is better because...could be Ford vs Chevy thing. I would also like to investigate code readers...only other potential mod is Carbon fiber overlays but WOW, expensive! We each have our own personal preferences and I see several have added the silver weave trim standard in the is models and I prefer the CF black no offense to others intended.
3) Is it just me or is the Navigation very tedious to use? So very easy to say Siri, take me to bla, bla, bla. Supposedly you can transfer Siri navigation to the BMW Navigation system but I have not been able to get it to work but have not spent more then a few mins on it.
Also, I have not seen this anywhere on here but I think these mounts are oustanding, pricey, but often you get what you pay for:

Finally, I know, this is all useless without pics...will update when she arrives. If you made it this far, congratulations...I am really long wided today! LOL!
