I wanted to share my knowledge and adventure of bringing my vision of BMW Style 5's on my 128i to life! I'm new to the forum and this is one of my first posts so I hope you enjoy and I hope it is useful. A couple weeks ago I was searching the internet and stumbled upon some BMW Style 5 wheels a.k.a BBS RC090 (not the BBS RC's that you see on VW's).
I live in Ohio and the wheels were all the way in California and the previous guy who had them did a great job with polishing.
They were listed as 17X8 with an offset of +20 and I was afraid that they were going to be too aggressive, so I posted the question of whether they would fit or rub and I got a lot of responses that I would need to either pull and roll my fenders or adjust the camber to make them fit.
This morning they arrived and I was really excited (I still get excited Christmas Eve..) so I unboxed them, grabbed my tires that came from Tire Rac, threw them in the Ford Exploder and took them to get mounted.
After Mounting and balancing:
"Test" fitting at home:
Looking good!
So now came the real test as to whether these beauties would fit or not. I was a bit skeptical about them fitting because of the offset, but luckily they fit without any rubbing whatsoever in the back or the front. I've tested with full lock to lock turning and full load.
Here she is with the new wheels on!
A couple of general things to mention for anyone out there that wants to do this to help with fitment and what I did. I have Hankook V12 tires with 205 45 17 size wheels and I also bought a hub centric centering ring since the hub diameter is slightly larger on the Style 5's. Other than those two things, I reused the same lug bolts and had not problems with anything! In the future I may lower it an inch or so, but I am happy with how they look and the standard ride height.
