Well, after 6 months of labouring with a battery on the way out today I got a new authentic BMW battery. The old one lasted 7+ years which is more you could say for a Marshall or similar... the old battery was throwing loads of errors in the computer but with a new battery the old beast runs much more smoothly.
One annoying thing I noticed first up when the battery started to die was the unreliable keyless entry action. Maybe this is a very early warning sign of a battery on the way out.
