My ordered M235i is literally days away (well, perhaps 2 weeks at the max), so I don't need to explain how excited I am (when I collect it hopefully at the beginning of April, it will have been a very long, 4-month wait)...
The car has been almost fully optioned out (coming from the F10, I wanted to make the transition as easy as possible, by minimizing the differences in available technologies etc.). There is still one difficult decision to be made: order the M-P LSD, or not.
I'm sure you guys - being BMW (and motoring in general) enthusiasts just like myself - perfectly understand my desire to make this car as "special" as possible. My 528xi I only used for 2 years was a great car; I just couldn't live with its small 4-banger engine in the large and heavy chassis - hence the switch to what might be described as exactly opposite: N55, a legendary smooth I6 engine with power being probably the highest I could afford, in a small and (relatively) lightweight body. I say "relatively" as a fully optioned F22 is not exactly lightweight - but it's certainly less heavy than the F10 I had. So please try and give me as many pros and cons regarding the serious expenditure the LSD comprizes, so that I can make this decision in the most conscious fashion possible :)
Let me answer a few questions you would probably want to ask before answering my LSD's pros & cons inquiry - upfront:
1. No, I'm not going to track my M235i (at least no such plans at the moment)
2. Yes, I'm a fast and dynamic driver, with some 44 years of driving experience - in 90% RWD
3. Yes I enjoy RWD for exactly the same reasons most of you - enthusiasts of "classic BMW" experience - do :)
4. No, I never had a car with LSD before
5. Yes - the M-P LSD price is a considerable amount of money in my budget :(
So - considering the above summary - if I'm tending to get it is because being 60 years old, this is probably the last opportunity in my lifetime to leverage my RWD driving experience (and pleasure) to as high a level as possible. I'm looking forward to any comments, opinions and advise you could think of - especially (but not limited to) those from actual owners of the M235i with this particular diff. TIA!
