2 series vs. 3 series coupe

Having only driven the old 3 series vert a limited amount of time and always loving the 3 series when the coupe was available. I was just wondering for those who have own the E92, how would you compare it to the 2 series. Both in performance and even looks. I currently have the 228 and love it but just wondering if I missed out on something. Thanks
