Paid Today - Dealership Add-ons

OK we are getting real close. We pick up our X5 next Monday at the PCD. We were called in to the dealer today to do our paperwork and get our temp plate which we will take with us.

We had a couple little things, like them not discounting the ceramic controls i added like the other options, and my $1000.00 drive event rebate missing in the finance office (but on my other paperwork). All were fixed right away and i don't think there was anything underhanded going on, just normal checks you have to do as a consumer.

My two main questions are regarding dealer add ons. I went into the office telling myself, and my wife, that I would not buy any extras. We were offered:

Extended Service Contract 7/100K $3,508

Prepaid Maintenance 6/100k $2,895

Interior Exterior Protection $999

Road Hazard Protection (wheel and tire) 5 years $1649

LoJack $699

Key replacement 3 yrs $259

Ding Shield 72 months, 8 wheel repairs $973.00

We declined all. He came back with a discount on the Extended warranty to a price of $2754.00. As I had seen prices on here of $4K i was now somewhat interested. He really sold hard the Wheel and tire and said "if his mom was buying he would make her get it" He said that one wheel and tire repair would cost almost that and he had an 80% "take rate" on that option. I did a search on her and did not see anything on it. I told him we were just buying the 19's and weren't as worried about potholes and low profile tire. He said there are still considered a low profile and with the run flats we will want it. He then said it is always returnable and we can use for a year or two and then when we switch to non run flats we can go back in and cancel the insurance and get our unused money back. Although we got the space saver spare, he said this was a must. In the end I was unsure after the hard sell and he offered a 30 day full return on this insurance so i bought it and told him I would go to my trusty forum for any research. He also said it was his number one issue in service.

On the Extended Warranty, i thought for piece of mind, for another Three Years less than $1,000 a year the piece of mind is well worth it. I will not have a repair for 7 years. I said go ahead on the lower figure of $2754.00.

Then we signed all the papers. The road hazard was a BMW product, but I was surprised when the paperwork on the extended warranty said Fidelity Warranty Services. I quickly asked what the difference was and he said that BMW one is much more expensive and is not quote as good. He is under the Crown Auto group of 120 dealerships and this is the company they offer. That does offer a bit of legitimacy to it.

One thing that felt a little weird, he kept talking about how "one service light" is going to cost us 2-3K alone, and the cost of keeping up with run-flats is so high. Finally my wife said, i feel like you are telling me I shouldn't be buying this car....I see her point after all the scaring tactics

My questions for the group - did I get taken? Do 80% of you have the road Hazard? Anyone benefited from it. Not like the dollars are going to kill me, just don't want to be a sucker. Anyone heard of this warranty firm?

Thanks again to all in advance for all your valuable advice
