Door Mechanism

Welp.... now I know what happens if the window motor ever stops working...

A few months ago, I had my car coded to shut off the electronics once I open the driver's door after an engine shutdown.

Yesterday, I took my dad somewhere and parked. He opened the passenger door and then I opened the driver door. As he closes it, there's a very loud CLUNK sound. He then realizes that the door didn't shut.

I go over to his side and try to mildly shut the door, and it would not close. The latch was locked in place and would not budge, so it was hitting the metal loop, preventing the door from closing. I tried locking and unlocking the car with my remote, no success.

Finally, I thought to pull on the door handle, which then activated the window motor to position the window slightly lowered. I didn't even notice that the window wasn't in the right position until just then. That's when I realized this whole thing was designed to prevent breaking the window in case it couldn't clear the car-side seal.

Seemed to be a fluke... this has never happened before.

But now you know... if the window motor ever breaks, be prepared to have a door that either won't open or won't close... :scared0016:
