Finally, the appointed day arrived for my delivery at BMW Welt! Flew over with my Mom in tow (her first time in Europe), spent a day wandering around Munich, got very little sleep, and turned up at the Welt for my 9:10am delivery. Went smoothly, with a very pleasant surprise - despite having been told previously that the factory would not be open for tours, it was open, and we got to do the tour! Which was absolutely fantastic and fascinating! :happyanim: Sadly, pictures are VERBOTTEN!
A couple other differences from my 2011 Euro Delivery - the car came with a full tank of gas, and I received a nice gift from Harmon/Kardon for ordering the stereo upgrade - a nifty BT travel speaker. They also not only give you the required safety vests, but both an engraved keychain and a 10 Euro voucher for the gift shop. Last time it was just the voucher, which I used to get the keychain. One slightly annoying surprise was that the Euro maps for the NAV are on a thumbdrive stuck in the USB port, and we were strongly cautioned to NOT remove it until we drop the car off, lest the iDrive system decide to pitch a fit. So much for the iPod full of music I brought... Luckily, I was able to download a bunch from Google Music and burn a DVD, so we will have tunes for the rest of the trip.
The car is fantastic! Drove from Munich to Stuttgart the long way around via Neuschwanstein castle - nice mix of derestricted autobahn and windy Bavarian back roads through villages. Due to taking the factory tour, we could not do the castle tour but still a lovely area to drive through. Went to the Porsche and MB museums today. Driving to Austria tomorrow, then on to Budapest, Modena (Ferrari Museum), Rome, Mulhouse (Schlumpf Museum) and finally dropping the car in Paris in three weeks. In return for dealing with all the car museums, Mom gets to go to a bunch of historic sites, Dachau, Pompeii, Pisa, sundry castles.
Mom is only driving me a little bit crazy... :D Once she stopped freaking out every time she saw a brake light ahead on the autobahn, things got a bit better.
Here we are at the delivery:

My clothes matching the color scheme of the car was strictly coincidental! Or sleep deprivation, not sure which...
And this time, the elves DID manage to get the "i" in the badge on right side up!
