Quick 6 speed manual review for those who want to know

I'm part of the I//M delivered ED group, and I've put 1000 miles on my car in the past 3 days including two track experiences at SPA and the Nordschleife. I have to say that this is one of the best BMW gearboxes that I have personally experienced. It has really none of the rubbery feeling of the E9X platform, which was also a bit vague as to when the gear was actually selected. The throws are shortened substantially, and there's a slight notchiness as the gear is actually selected so you actually have some tactile feel as to when that happens. The shifter feels solidly connected to the gearbox without any vagueness. I heel-toed with no problem during both track days. The clutch is progressive and easy to modulate in daily driving, as well as the track setting. Pedal feel is actually a little on the light side. From my experience, you can shift this box as fast as you like. It takes it like a champ with no hint of complaining. I also did not notice ANY performance disadvantage down the straightway at SPA compared to the DCT cars (quite the opposite actually).

The rev match feature in eco and sport settings is actually kind of cool. It instantly matches the revs as the gear shifter is making "contact" with that slight notch as it is going into gear. It works flawlessly, but I keep trying to rev match myself at the same time. Going to take some serious reconditioning to keep from hitting the gas on downshifts even in daily driving.

Overall it is a very substantial improvement over any other BMW I have driven. I love the gearbox and I love the experience. IMO, it is at least as good as my 997 turbo 6MT which I also consider to have a very nice driving experience. I would order it this way every time if I had to do it over again.
