So my car when in to have its rear tyres changed, and thankfully after the debacle I had with the incorrect fronts being fitted all went to plan.
I left my car with them for the day and my courtesy car was a 316i Sport....I have to admit my heart sunk when I saw the model but it wasn't completely awful after spending the day with it.
Few observations;
Manual gearbox - after F30aM's negative experience with a manual recently I defended the box as I have a manual in my car. The courtesy car with only 1600miles was bloody awful:lol:
Engaging 2nd gear was like wrestling an alligator, reverse was very very tight. My car has just clicked 51k miles and is absolutely silky smooth but still tight so clearly they loosen up with age and get better.
Handling - sadly was a bit too floaty for my liking, seemed to pitch and wallow about. It had 18" wheels with a square set up (225/45 R18) which looked nice but coupled with the high ride height looked a bit lost in the arches.
316i - now don't get me wrong it is a bit lacking but for wafting about for a day it was actually far better than the figures would have you believe, I can imagine for city driving or short journeys this would be perfectly adequate for non motoring enthusiast owners :cool:
Sport Trim - apart from the seat material which I found quite cheap looking (disappointing BMW) everything else was more or less the same as my car which was reassuring. Steering wheel was quite nasty in its feel though with very hard leather (of sorts).
Not an awful car but mine felt like a rocket ship when I got back in it and the back with new rubber feels a lot less squirmy :happyanim:
