well I was just reading the latest consumer reports on the best new car buys.. as I scrolled to the luxury sports sedan segment it shows that the bmw 328i is a best buy, again for the billionth time by them... soo what eles is new.. but I also noticed that there reliablilty is sub par, so I ask you, why wont bmw keep making a great driving car that's reliable.. Honda does, so does Toyota and even the GAG COUGH Buick Verano.. it rates higher in reliability.. as I went back and looked at the previous yrs where the bmw 3 had been picked a best buy, its always the same outcome.. average reliability.. for a premium car and a stupid price to options vehicle, I would think that it should be up there with lexus or acura for staying out of the garage.. just a thought

Steering Wheel Compatibility
I have a 2006 325i with sport package. My sport steering wheel has seen better days. I started looking into having the cosmetic wear fixed but I came across another member of the forums selling a sport steering wheel. The wheel he is selling is from a 2009 335i LCI. I attached the link to his post.
I am just trying to make sure that the sport steering wheel from the 2009 will actually fit on my 2006.

Vibrating after new wheel install?
I had my Forgestar F14s installed last week. They are 19x9.5 F and 19x11 R. I am using the stock tires to start with because dollars.
I had them installed at the dealer which has Roadforce and was on the list of roadforce locations for the GXP 9700 or whatever website. So I assume/presume they were installed correctly and balanced.
No spacers are used. Stock lug nuts.
However I am noticing vibrating. Not sure which wheel, likely the front L, but possibly front R as well. I can feel it in the steering wheel and can see it in the sun visor shaking down the road.
Is this common for aftermarket wheels without a spacer? I haven't had time to go back to the dealer yet just trying to figure out what to tell them when I go back.

I've got a 320d e92 on a 58 plate so an N47 engine!
So that means i'm constantly worried about timing chain issues, although no signs of it YET! :)

Hi guys,
I have 4 codes and the usual errors (Start off assistance, reduced engine power, increased emissions and a dsc error)
2B57 - "torque limitation" related to other codes
2B59 - Coolant thermostat monitor
CDC0 - Bank 2 throttle valve actuator
5E19 - Not sure
Canadian car, under CPO. Dealership says I need to replace thermostat and program the car. I know that won't fix the throttle valve actuator issue. Any suggestions? I can replace the thermostat myself, but I'm not sure if there's an actual issue or if it's being caused by something else. Apparently in Canada the thermostat isn't covered by CPO.

Just recently sold my F10 to downgrade back to an e46 and I have some parts laying around..
First, BRAND NEW ECS LED lighting kit for the interior.. It's all the bulbs needed to convert your ENTIRE interior to a beautiful LED! Paid a $100 brand new, never took them out of the box.. = $80 shipped.
Next, OEM BMW Black Rubber floor mats.. Fronts were used for 7k miles, rears are still brand new in the package.. = $125 + shipping OBO
Lastly, With how bad this winter was, I found someone selling 2 EAGLE LS2 All Season RTF tires with less than 3000 miles on them, and scooped them both up for $500, Used one since I got a bubble, the other has been sitting in my garage. I'm sure you guys know these tires are $400 EACH!. Looking for $250 obo

What temperature does the water thermostat open at?
I've gotten the "2EF4*map thermostat, mechanics" code a few times in the past week. The car isn't overheating but I think the thermostat may be stuck open. What temperature does the thermostat open at?
I went into the gauge clusters digital hidden menu and displayed the water temperature gauge to check it out on my way home from work tonight. It took about 3 - 5 minutes for the car to get to 70-72° C (160 F) and then it stayed there for most of the remaining way (about a 15 minute trip). It did creep up to around 78 C (about 170°) when I got off the highway and in my neighborhood. Ambient temperature was low 60s.

FBO with ediff?
Hey guys I'm looking to go FBO by the end of the month. Some people are suggesting I cut a power mod out (most likely intercooler) and get a wavetrac LSD to plant the power down. I'd like some input from people that are FBO with or without an LSD. I do want one eventually but I'm wondering if I can wait until next season.

New Speakers but no sound
Hi, I have a E92 with the base professional head unit with upgraded Earthquake subs, Wanting to improve on things further I changed the front door speakers for MTX RXC4.1 components with the mids mounted on metal speaker rings and the tweeters mounter in to BMW OE mirror sails.
The crosovers are mounted in the doors and feed from the OE wiring coming through the door.
I've tested the mid, tweeter and crossover and all work perfectly but when wired up to the OE headunit theres no sound from the tweeters, its as though the frequescy output from the headunit is cut off lower than the crossover pointfor the tweeter on the crossover?? Do i need to take a signal feed for the crossovers for the front speakers from somewhere else in the car or directly from the headunit its self?

You'll find the 3 Series in the 'family' category which was won by the Mercedes C Class, with the F30 coming in at 7th (interestingly the worst car in that category was the Audi A4).
All they had to say about the '3' was - For: responsive steering; motorway passing power; exterior/interior colour. combinations; gearshift; styling. Against: rear seat adjustment; rear head and legroom; road noise; cabin storage space; servicing costs.
I'm with them on all the 'for' items. As for the against comments, have ridden in the back of mine a few times and never had a problem with comfort, headroom or legroom and I'm 6'1". Road noise - agreed. Cabin storage space - ok not huge but then I don't carry lots of odds & ends. Servicing costs - wouldn't know, got the Service Plus package. What I would have marked the car down for in my case would have been poor reliability but then I think my car is in the minority there.
I am a little skeptical of these surveys as they can't be wholly objective. I think company car owners probably answer questions differently to private buyers and the same for people on different budgets or with differing driving experience. E.g. the sort of person who buys a VW Up! will probably have a completely different set of expectations to that of say an F30/F31 buyer.

Loud metallic "crack" from exhaust when changing gear
Ok, i know a lot about the wastegate rattle (and actually slightly have it... :sigh:) but i've encountered another problem also...
Every time after starting the car (especially cold) and making a first firm pull, i can hear a loud metallic harsh sound from exhaust when changing gear up, usually from 1->2 (AT). When changing from 2->3 right after everything is normal. I think it has to be related to the turbos as it need a bit of boost to happen. When driving "normally" i cannot hear it.
- It cannot be the buterfly valve as it has been removed
- all vacuum / boost lines have been changed
- no fault codes
- JB4, stock pipes
Any ideas? The car looks amazing now after all updates and the sound makes it feel like a 6$ shitbucket.

Bmw warranty question regarding waste gate problem
I have recently purchased a 2007 335xi no longer then 10 days ago at an official BMW dealership. Not being very familiar with the engine in this particular car I first over looked the slight ticking noise coming from the engine bay of the car.
Long story short I have diagnosed the problem being the wastegate. My car is a 2007 335xi with 58k miles. No warranty was purchased with the car. My question is because the waste gate problem falls under a manufacture emissions warranty that was extended to 8 years or 85k miles, would that mean my cars is still covered to be fixed? And if not is there anything I could do in order to get it covered?

OpenFlash Tablet - Corrupt Firmware
I need some assistance:
I purchased a used Openflash Tablet, and was able to read my ECU just fine, but when I went to connect it to the PC to modify the maps before updating, it started a firmware upgrade. I let it finish, and was able to download my stored bin file and modify it.
Once I tried to upload the modified firmware, I would get a communication error, either "Error 0x6C while communicating with the device" or same message with hex 0x46.
I called support, they said to re-read the ECU, which I tried, and would get "Error: Protocol file corrupted. Please update OpenFlash"
I called again, and they said they needed to reset the Tokens, to allow it to flash my car, I am pretty sure they did this, because now OpenFlash gives the message "Device has never been used, connect on to the vehicle and read the ECU".
When I tried to connect to my car again, it forces me to calibrate the screen every time, and gives two more errors:
"Error: Tuning file mismatching. ECU Write denied"
or
"Error: Protocol file corrupted. Please update OpenFlash"
I am unable to run any diags, read the ecu, or really anything. If even try and rotate or change the brightness, the tablet becomes useless as the screen no longer updates correctly.
I don't think the PC supplied enough power to update the firmware, and now there is no way to reflash the tablet (that I know of).
I am wondering if there is anyone out there that has an OpenFlash Tablet that is still on 1.26 firmware, that would be willing to run Wireshark, and capture all the communication the OpenFlash Manager makes to alientech-to.it (94.100.32.37), and if possible capture any temp files OpenFlash Manager saves before the firmware flash starts. Just so I can try re-flashing back to 1.27 firmware.
Maybe WedgePerformance or another experienced person on the forums would be able to assist.
I purchased a used Openflash Tablet, and was able to read my ECU just fine, but when I went to connect it to the PC to modify the maps before updating, it started a firmware upgrade. I let it finish, and was able to download my stored bin file and modify it.
Once I tried to upload the modified firmware, I would get a communication error, either "Error 0x6C while communicating with the device" or same message with hex 0x46.
I called support, they said to re-read the ECU, which I tried, and would get "Error: Protocol file corrupted. Please update OpenFlash"
I called again, and they said they needed to reset the Tokens, to allow it to flash my car, I am pretty sure they did this, because now OpenFlash gives the message "Device has never been used, connect on to the vehicle and read the ECU".
When I tried to connect to my car again, it forces me to calibrate the screen every time, and gives two more errors:
"Error: Tuning file mismatching. ECU Write denied"
or
"Error: Protocol file corrupted. Please update OpenFlash"

N52 throttle response: how sharp on low rpm?
75k miles 330i 6MT. In lower rpm range, when press down throttle, it feels like the surge of power comes somewhat half a second later. I am wondering how sharp the throttle response should be?
I ve tried the press-on-throttle-for-30-seconds trick and feel little difference.
My gas mileage also seems to be on the high side, thinking of a spark plug change?

Bmw warranty question regarding waste gate problem
I have recently purchased a 2007 335xi no longer then 10 days ago at an official BMW dealership. Not being very familiar with the engine in this particular car I first over looked the slight ticking noise coming from the engine bay of the car.
Long story short I have diagnosed the problem being the wastegate. My car is a 2007 335xi with 58k miles. No warranty was purchased with the car. My question is because the waste gate problem falls under a manufacture emissions warranty that was extended to 8 years or 85k miles, would that mean my cars is still covered to be fixed? And if not is there anything I could do in order to get it covered?

Radiator fan codes
Hey guys,
My 08 328i started to overheat on my way home from work. I got the orange coolant temp light on the dash and the car went into limp mode in stop and go traffic on the freeway. The radiator fan was running so loud I though it was going to fly out. I had ac on max as it was 100*F. I also noticed the ac stopped blowing cold air. Luckily, I was able to pull off I-10 and get to a gas station to let her cool down.
When I finally got home, I checked for fault codes w/ INPA and got the following: P0691 cooling fan 1 relay control circuit low and P14C0 cooling fan 1mechanical defect or hardware defect. I didn't get any fault codes for the t-stat or the water pump.
Is it safe to say that I'm going to have to replace the fan? Is the relay part of the fan? I don't have my Bentley manual with me right now. I'm at 93k miles so I know the t-stat and WP are up next. Where would you start?

URGENT HELP PLEASE!! on fueling system ££

Last week my car has decided to play up. I'm hoping I can ask advice before spending serious ££!
On Wednesday, the car got me home from work without any problems whatsoever, as it always does.
Thursday morning, I get in, go to start and to my surprise, it just turns over but wont fire up. I wiggled a few things, locked/unlocked a few times, put steering lock on and off etc. and still the same thing.
So I was forced to call a near by mobile mechanic out to take a look. He comes over, plugs in his snap on box and the error codes are showing 2x new injector faults and glow plug faults(which I've had since a year ago and had never bothers the car before). He turns off the errors and the car starts first time and runs smoothly.
Next, he unplugs, leaves the car for a few mins, then tries again. This time, the car starts but runs like a bag of nails and kicks out a shed load of smoke. He checks again and 2 more injector faults 4&5 are showing.
So, his diagnostic is that the injectors are at fault and im facing up to 1000 quid to have them all removed and refurbed, or 700 if I just want the two faulty ones replaced.
My question to everyone is, does this sound like an accurate diagnostic, or could it be anything else before I go ahead spending that much money? (relays/fuel pumps/immobilizer type issue etc.)??

well I was just reading the latest consumer reports on the best new car buys.. as I scrolled to the luxury sports sedan segment it shows that the bmw 328i is a best buy, again for the billionth time by them... soo what eles is new.. but I also noticed that there reliablilty is sub par, so I ask you, why wont bmw keep making a great driving car that's reliable.. Honda does, so does Toyota and even the GAG COUGH Buick Verano.. it rates higher in reliability.. as I went back and looked at the previous yrs where the bmw 3 had been picked a best buy, its always the same outcome.. average reliability.. for a premium car and a stupid price to options vehicle, I would think that it should be up there with lexus or acura for staying out of the garage.. just a thought

Vehicle Tax; charge for F11 530d
I paid £140 when I bought the car last August ... just been looking to see when the Tax Disc becomes redundant, and out of curiousity looked to see how much it was gonna cost me this year.
The Gov.uk site says for 'F10/F11 2010 onwards' - £180 Tax (152 CO ),
.. the V5 says 149 CO , ie £145 Tax
and the current BMW website Engine spec page says 139 CO , which drops it another Grade !
So those sources between them cover 3 levels of Tax
Then I noticed that the Gov.uk site lets you chose from 17, 18 or 19" wheels .... new one on me ! Each has a diffn CO level quoted ....
Wondering if the LCI egnine was 'better' than the original 2010 F10/11 ?
Anyone know which is correct ?

As the title states I am looking for quad Mtech carbon fiber diffuser for a 328. Muse be quad and for the 328 not 335, the difference is the gap for the tips. The 328 has the exhaust outlets far apart towards the edge of the diffuser vs the 335 which are closer
M performance front splitter
Has anyone managed to source and install the m performance front splitter? I'm waiting for a quote from my local garage I can see it being around £400+ for the item only.

Squeeking cables
I have several annoying noises in my car, and one of them is located in the rear seat, just next to the right door.
I have removed the side of the rear seat ( the small , vertical piece of leather between the seat itself and the door. Only present on cars WITHOUT 3rd row), and below is a large cable set where squeeking is coming from the cablesrubbing against eachother and against the plastic cable guide.
Any ideas on how to prevent this squeeking ? I can't imagine greasing IT :-)

Got a P0112 code, has anyone dealt wiht this code before?
I got a P0112 code which is - Intake Air Temperature Circuit Low Input. Before I go changing my MAF.. can anyone make any suggestions? I cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner, cleaned the connections and also, change the air filter. My car is a 2011 335D with 115K on it. Before I go to the dealer and buy a new MAF, I wonder if any of you had any experiences with this code? Thanks in advance!

Rear hatch opening while parked
Has anyone experienced the problem where the trunk opens while the vehicle is parked ?
I have had it 4-5 times by now, and it is always a shock to come back to the car with the trunk open in the middle of the supermarket parking.
Now to be honest, I suspect the problem is with the M sport keyfob where the button for opening the rear sticks out and is pushed when i have the keys in my pocket. But not sure...
So if anyone has the same problem ?
Also, is there a way to disable this button (other than taking the keyfob apart ?)

I acquired the full M3 drivetrain including the rear OEM brakes for a hot rod I'm building (http://ift.tt/RJSY1V) out of a 14,600 mile 2008 e90 M3. Scored a new pair of massive Brembo ZR1 monoblock calipers for the hot rod and mating with new Brembo 380X34 rings w/ their M3 hats/bells so these are available. Just seemed more appropriate (and way cheaper) to build my own BBK for this project so these are available. $500 plus shipping.
The brakes are still mounted to the rear but will be removed this weekend, shown as acquired and as currently mounted for mock-up.

Lag when pulling out of corners
Decided to drive a little more sporty for the past couple of days on my commute. I put it in Sport+ and had some fun accelerating out of corners. I can break traction quite easily, wet road helps and A/S tires too. However I've noticed that there is a significant lag when accelerating out of a corner, and it's not due to breaking the traction. It's not turbo lag either. It feels like auto transmission lag. What's funny is that I do not really experience this on a straight line, but when braking hard to enter a corner, the car stays in a high gear, and then when it's time to accelerate hard again, the transmission takes forever to downshift. So there is a several-second lag out of a corner to get going again.
It's very annoying. I could probably shift with the paddles but this AT might be crappier than I thought under tracking conditions. I think I was reading somewhere that Porsche had a smart implementation that feels when the car enters a corner and the AT reacts accordingly. Is this not the case in the BMW? There is no higher mode to be in than Sport+. Is anyone tracking the AT and has noticed that?

HID BALLAST replacement. How much? E92
so my driver light isn’t working. I went to auto zone thinking it needed a d1s bulb replacement but that wasn’t the issue. A guy told me i have to replace the hid ballast which was wet when i opened. How much should i pay for a new hid ballast so i don’t get ripped off. I have a E92 coupe.
