Last Thursday, I went to play golf. I came back to my e92 with comfort access, opened the truck with my hand, it opened fine, door opened, pressed the starter and the electronics flickered and it did not start. I had it towed to the dealership.
The dealer diagnosed it with a broken starter and dead battery because of the starter. They replaced the starter and recharged the battery, and charged me $1,150.
Fast forward to this afternoon. Exact same place, exact same result. Played golf, trunk opened, door opened, electronics flickered, car didn't start. This time I didn't call for a tow. I left my car for half an hour to hit more balls (because my blood pressure was through the roof), called a friend for a ride, and when he arrived my car started just fine, but the clock and trip computer were reset so there was obviously a disconnection.
Now I'm convinced that it could not have been the starter and the dealership completely ripped me off. If it was in fact the starter, the same exact problem (to a T) would not have happened 3 days later. The dealership is closed, but I left a raging message with the service manager and I said that I want to have a 3rd party look at the supposedly broken starter (Im sure that won't be possible). Any other suggestions for what I should do? I will contact BMWNA as well, and if I can find out that they knew it wasn't the starter and charged for it anyway then I will be taking legal action.
